Simple and Elegant! Sometimes simple is elegant and sufficient! Here for the evening walk at Kalamazoo Maple YMCA and notice this on the wall of walking track. The simple idea of picking a direction to walk based on the odd or even days is brilliant. Can you imagine the number of headaches we might encounter if that was not in place. Ofcourse, now the real headache is to figure out which day it is 😀 YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo

G-O-L-F: Get Opportunities and Lifetime Friends It might sound like a cliché, but it's an unvarnished truth. Golf offers a level playing field, though a bit of bashfulness can sometimes surface among the low-handicappers :-). One thing is certain—whether we're high, low, or mid-handicappers, we're all deeply passionate about the game. At times, those 18 holes can feel like a fiery trial, testing us in ways that leave us either honored or humbled—just like my experience at the @KCBEAGolfTour at my endeared Limuru Country Club, where camaraderie is always at its peak. A team made up of family and friends FA Renaldo D'Souza Hassan I. Kuzivakwashe Murigo, void of calculated tactics but brimming with good sportsmanship, led to a well-earned victory—winning is always a plus. Play golf, Get Opportunities, and make Lifetime friends. What a wonderful game, the game we so love. #KCBEAGolfTour2024 #SwingTheTour#ForPeopleForBetter
Rozita D'souza, a humanitarian social worker, shares her excitement about joining the golf club her family has long enjoyed. With her husband and brother, Ronaldo D'souza, she formed a team for the #KCBEAGolfTour Limuru leg, finishing as runners-up. Rozita appreciates the social environment of the club and looks forward to making new friends while having fun. #KCBEAGolfTour2024 #SwingTheTour #ForPeopleForBetter.

An Outward Bound residential isn't just for schools. Recently, our Loch Eil center has been welcoming a number Young Carers Groups. Why Outward Bound? ⛰️ An Opportunity for a break: Our residential offers young carers a chance to step away from their daily responsibilities and into nature. A time to have fun, be carefree, and learn new skills like skimming stones on the lake! ⛰️ Creating a Supportive Community: Outward Bound provides a space for young carers to meet others facing similar challenges, fostering a sense of community, reducing isolation, and building a support network. ⛰️ Promoting Mental and Physical Well-being: The focus on physical activity and nature immersion in our program has shown positive effects on mental health, offering young carers a crucial opportunity to rejuvenate and enhance their well-being. ⛰️ Encouraging Personal Growth: Through reflection and personal development, Outward Bound helps young carers recognize their strengths and set inspiring goals for the future. Over the next year we have plenty of opportunities for young carers to experience the joys of an Outward Bound residential whether that's through a 5 day residential with their local young carers group or even coming away on a Summer Adventure. Outward Bound are here to support those young people and Adventure Funding is available to help them ensure funding isn't a barrier to accessing our courses! If you'd like to read our Case Study on the Impact of Outward Bound residentials then drop me a message and I'd be happy to share it with you. Loria Yeadon modeling that just because you may not have had access to something in the past, doesn’t mean that you have to let guilt, shame, or any other emotion keep you from taking the plunge when that sea of opportunity opens up. Whether it’s swimming (or financial strategy/estate planning 😉) take a deep breath and dive on in with a trusted coach/instructor/advisor. #BreakingBarriers #GenerationalShifts
CEO - YMCA of Greater Seattle • Equity and Justice Leader • Board Member • Patent Attorney • Engineer
Growing up in a small, rural town without a YMCA, where pools weren’t accessible, our family’s approach to water safety, like many families of color, was to fear the water. At the Y, we are committed to making water safety and aquatics activities accessible and fun for everyone. I learned to swim when I became CEO of the YMCA of Greater Seattle in 2019. Although I recall being filled with trepidation and fear before my first swim lesson, I eventually became one with the water through my lessons at the YMCA. The reality is when parents don’t learn to swim, their kids are only 13% likely to learn. As part of National Water Safety Month, the Y encourages parents to take the plunge, learn to swim, and register your youth and family members for Y swim lessons and water safety classes. Register for swim lessons here: https://lnkd.in/gUvqsffg To learn more about how and why I learned to swim at age 56, watch the video below. #watersafetyforall #nationalwatersafetymonth
