Measuring temperature by optical fiber Distributed temperature sensing (DTS) measures temperature distribution over the length of an optical fiber cable using the fiber itself as the sensing element. Unlike traditional electrical temperature measurement (thermocouples & RTD), the length of the fiber optic cable is the temperature sensor. Distributed temperature sensing can provide thousands of accurate and precise temperature measurements over a long distance. Compared to traditional electrical temperature measurements, distributed temperature sensing represents a cost effective method for obtaining accurate and high resolution temperature measurement. Excellent solution. Due to the passive characteristic it is immune from the electromagnetic interference and also immune from the hazardous environment. Moreover long distance can be covered without any power supply.
It is a great solution for every industry and has many proven used cases in India now in various sectors of the industry.
Looking forward to visiting the #Yokogawa stand at #ECOC soon.

2moInteresting, but why do you mention fire detection, what is the relation??
