On Jan. 31, 2024, the Data.FI/Guatemala team met with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance, and the Wildlife Conservation Society, as well as with USAID and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to discuss solutions that facilitate the exchange of information under the #OneHealth approach. During the meeting, Data.FI presented a roadmap to define and work on strengthening the One Health information ecosystem, a collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary approach, with the goal of achieving optimal health outcomes recognizing the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment. Data.FI/Guatemala’s work building interoperable systems to unify the efforts of diverse stakeholders is vital for empowering the government to prevent, detect, and respond to risks in the areas of human, animal, and environmental health. #USAID #Guatemala #interoperability #globalhealth #digitalsolutions #onehealth

Senior Program Manager Water and Sanitation Governance | LL.M.; M.Sc Environmental Management and Policy
Yes! it is time to widen the debate around water and WASH. Considering animals in the discussion has proven to be key for a more effective and comprehensive understanding of the issues that affect us. From understanding their key role as "supporters" of family / women burden on domestic chores - including transporting fresh water - to the health issues that we have in common with them, passing through their contribution to climate change and antibiotic resistance... not to mention the ethical issues around considering them included. If you want to learn more about why it is important to include the discussion, do not miss this webinar:
Why is it critical to consider the role of animals when discussing #WASH? Inspired by discussions at World Water Week 2023, we are pleased to launch a new policy brief for policymakers, WASH practitioners, and researchers on addressing the intertwined risks, needs, and opportunities at the animal-human-water interface. Join SIWI together with SIANI - Swedish International Agricultural Network Initiative, FAO, Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) and the Working Animal Alliance for the virtual launch of the policy brief, "Putting Animals on the WASH Agenda." 📆 Tuesday 11 June 🕒 15:00 CEST 📝 https://bit.ly/4bL4xPp --- #SIWI #WaterGovernance #WaterAndSanitation #Sanitation #Animals #WaterScarcity #WaterResources #WaterSolutions

One Health advocates that human, environmental, and animal health are closely interlinked and that interventions should actively consider these interlinkages to achieve larger impacts. Similarly, the water–energy–food–ecosystems (WEFE) nexus promotes systems thinking to reduce the costs of trade-offs and achieve synergies. However, to date, these two approaches have largely operated separately. This webinar by the CGIAR Initiative on NEXUS Gains will discuss two case studies where these systems overlap. The first case study links built surface water storage systems with human health, while the second assesses the WEFE nexus of the rice-fisheries system. This will be followed by a discussion of the challenges and opportunities of systems approaches to achieve real impact. Join the webinar on April 11 and hear from Dr Eline Boelee and Dr Matthew McCartney: https://bit.ly/4ajatOu International Water Management Institute (IWMI) Deltares #OneCGIAR #NEXUSGainsInitiative #OneHealth #WEFE #WEFEnexus

During the last weeks, primary sector in Catalonia but not only, has been in an active strike to fight against the unbearable bureaucracy that farmers, ranchers and any landowner has to support on top of their undefetable daily fight with environment, animal care and farmlands. This deputy is reading the uncountable list of all type of permissions, check lists, controls that every farmer has to fill, and reminding the mandatory character of such list fullfillment. It is really disencouraging to listen this gentleman, but in fact, it is indeed worse than that…because when we move to another economical sectors…list is longer, bigger and indeed more complicated. UE, States and Regional Governments should really go to psychiatrist’s coach and ask themselves if they reall want to kill any fundamental economical activity with the excess of regulations and rules, some of them contradictory ones. I do not say no rules, I just say to balance the number of laws and think a little bit in the actual situation among all economical sectors…. Video is in catalan, but the importance is not understanding it…simply listen it and you can imagine what is he reading…
