Stop emailing customers about Black Friday. Someone had to say it 🤣 I'm not against all email, but I'm against endless BFCM emails 3x a day. A brand actually did this to me last year. I unsubscribed and I haven't shopped with them since. Not like I was their biggest spender or anything though, so they'll probably do the same thing this year. For those who like to look at trends reports for BFCM, I'm looking at one from our friends at Tapcart (your team is awesome Ash Mousavian) One of their findings is that customers are wary of too much BFCM spam. I totally agree, especially when volume is the priority and not quality of communications. It's pretty easy to tell the difference. As always, your mileage may vary, and not every business follows trends. Not every business is a BFCM business either. Now that we've gotten those out of the way, here are my favorites: 1) Personalization of email content, where possible. 2) Using FOMO 3) Rewarding loyal customers. What are your faves?

There's a lot of talk about Black Friday email prep... But what about after the sale is over? Here's how to recover after sending strictly promos at a high volume during BF/CM in 4 steps (so your email list doesn't get sick of you). 1) Thank people for engaging: Simple plain text thank you will do the trick. They'll be sick of you so make it come from the founder / team and it needs to be genuine. 2) Lower volume: Send 1-2 emails for the next week or 2 instead of the usual cadence of 3-4. 3) No discounts for a while: Straight content, educational, valuable, fun. Do not ask them for anything for the next 2-4 weeks. 4) Get back to sending to a tight engaged segment: 60/90/120 day engaged ONLY.

Implementing fear in the minds of customers is powerful. Take Black Friday as an example. People rush to get those good DEALS, and if they don't someone else will do it for them. Showing them scenarios of how bad it can get if they don't act now triggers fear inside of their mind. This is known also as FOMO (Fear of missing out).

Every prospect starts with a 1:1 conversation with me directly. We chat for long enough that both sides can get a feel for if the relationship is viable. If the vibe is good, the conversation progresses towards their business. Last year in the month leading up to Black Friday, I took a call from a potential client at around Midnight. During our chat, I knew I could give his business the best Black Friday they’d ever had. I took a train to his factory on my own dime to meet with him and his team. We made a plan and prepped for Black Friday. Then … we watched the sales pour in. No PowerPoint presentation can sell like that. Forget hitting prospects with a deck right away. Focus on the mutual fit.

We split the list into two groups. Each with their own specific call to action. The result? Group A had an 18% conversion rate. Group B? An 80% conversion rate. WHAT?! One small difference resulted in a 344% increase in sales. You know what keeps me up at night? Not World War III. Not world hunger. Not even the Boogeyman... It's CALLS TO ACTION. That's what.
