Should we train climbing gym employees like lifeguards? My first job was lifeguarding, and I loved it, but I took it very seriously. I believed that people's lives were in my hands. I lifeguarded for 13 years, progressing to become an instructor trainer. This meant that I was certified to train individuals as lifeguards. Lifeguards are trained to prevent accidents before they happen. It is no different now that I manage climbing gyms. I train our climbing gym employees like lifeguards. I instruct them to patrol the climbing area, survey it with their eyes, continually looking for improperly tied knots, belay devices that aren't loaded correctly, and stop kids from running under someone who’s bouldering. In short, we train accident prevention to see it before it happens and intervene. Someday I may even consider putting red crosses on our employee T-shirts. At the gym, people's lives are in our hands as we facilitate the practice of rock climbing. Perhaps we should take it as seriously as lifeguards take watching their water. How do you train your staff, do you draw from other professions? #climbing #rockclimbing #climbinggym #climbinglifeguard

Helping Gym Owners WIN * Marketing Processes * Sales Processes * Staff Structure * Business Model * Fitness Marketing *
Switching to Semi-Private Training saved my gym. It allowed me to make more money while helping fewer clients and finally get off the "time for money" hamster wheel that my Large Group Training classes were keeping me on. Since making the decision to switch, I've documented every step my gym took to switch to Semi-Private successfully. And I’ve worked personally with hundreds of other gym owners, walking them through these same steps so that they too could successfully switch to the Semi-Private Training model. Wednesday at 4pm EST, I want to show you the first step you'll need to take if you're considering adding Semi-Private training to your gym. SPOILER ALERT: You NEED to start offering Semi-Private training if you aren't already. If you're skeptical, that's ok. Let me prove it to you live on Wednesday at 4pm EST. I'll show you the simple first step you can take if you want to explore this highly profitable training model. Join me live here: https://lnkd.in/gnvZn9_S

Let’s face it. Sometimes the gym can get boring. If you are there for minimum of 3 times a week, you can quickly get fed up with looking at the same four walls and using the same old equipment. Sometimes it may get busy and others, you might even need to que for equipment, massively disrupting your workout. A PT will have a range of equipment that they can bring with them including items that are chosen specifically for you, giving you access to different apparatus and with it, techniques. Better still, a PT has free reign to really mix up your training – this can include runs, hill walks and even swims. The whole point is keeping your programme fresh and interesting to keep you engaged and stepping things up like this will do just that.

Hayley couldn’t make her usual group training time here at Lil’s, so she came in straight from work, an hour before any other members showed up, to get what she could done… so of course Coach @eh_pex and myself couldn’t leave her hanging on her AMRAP set of Board Press Some key lessons to take away: 1) DON’T SKIP THE GYM Reschedule, modify, whatever you have to do— but get some work in. Skipping entirely is both the worst you can do in terms of stimulus, so it does nada for your goals, and also builds a habit of not showing up. And one missed day turns into a year out of the gym far, far too quickly— so props to Hayley for making it happen! 2) The gym is & should be a supportive place Neither coach was ‘on the clock’, but just about everyone who goes to the gym with any degree of seriousness will step up to lend a hand & make sure your gym experience is safe, fun & productive. Anyone who doesn’t isn’t worth worrying about. F*ck em. So, like @eh_pex is fond of saying, Get To The F*cking Gym #getstrong #getfit #lookgreat #personaltrainer #grouptraining #onlinecoach #busyprofessionals #consistencyiskey #gettothegym
