We ask our project engineers to reflect at every step in their journey and remain focused on their long-term goals and aspirations. Project engineers are our future, and they must learn the following in their first 3-5 years in our awesome #construction industry; 1. Technical skills. They must learn to become builders, understand the building process, and learn each specialty trade. They also watch and then lead, inspect, verify means and methods, and perform proper installation. 2. Team building skills. The best project management professionals understand their people, their strengths and weaknesses in the field, and their ability to manage change and conflict. 3. EQ skills. I believe character is at least 50% learned. Values and purpose must be motivating factors behind industry success. Consistency in treating customers and subcontractors is vital. 4. Conflict skills. #projectmanagers are in conflict 90% of their existence. Through project change, subs scope change, as-built modification, owner requirement change, contract terms might change, and field teams will change. Learning that this is an exciting part of their career vs. internalizing as an internal failure. Meet Patrik Lennartsson, who with extensive experience can solve the most complex projects. Patrik Lennartsson is Project Engineer at HAKI's Technical Support. With a lifelong career in the construction industry, he possesses vast knowledge and expertise gained from numerous projects. Patrik has been doing calculations throughout his whole professional journey, and with 22 years at HAKI, he focuses on dimensioning and calculating weather protection and scaffolding. HAKI's global network of technical support, manufacturing, and construction experts offers project support including calculation programs, evaluations, and training. Undertaking numerous projects of varying character each year, has built an experienced team. – I believe that the blend of experience and knowledge, coupled with continuity, is crucial. Those of us with longer experience in the business possess the more specific and in-depth competence, but it's equally important that we incorporate fresh perspectives to stay abreast of developments. We have a good mix of long-time employees and those bringing in new knowledge, says Patrik. At HAKI, we never compromise on safety. – I don't do anything unless I can stand behind it. Safety comes first, I always emphasize that in my projects. There are always new issues to address and resolve in different ways, and that’s the best part about my job, creating something new each time. Since the beginning of my career, the progression has been tremendous in the way we solve problems. The calculations are much more advanced these days, says Patrik. However, the most important aspect is the communication with the customers and ensuring that the collaboration works both ways. – We have customers who we work with over a long period of time. This ongoing partnership continually strengthens and evolves. After all, a good relationship with the customers is very important and that’s also what makes my days, that I get to work so close with our customers.
