Avoid: - Waiting passively for a mentor to find you. - Overlooking the importance of networking and relationship-building. - Ignoring the advice of mentors and sponsors. This week I'm reminding you of the power of analogies when communicating and influencing those around you. Analogies can help you transform really complex ideas into easily digestible concepts, making them more relatable and memorable. Plus they inspire action! Here are two examples I use when running workshops, training or facilitating board conversations. Enjoy!

I help executives and business owners communicate with confidence and thrive at work, so you deliver better results. Menopause Advocate. 🎙 Keynote Speaker 📗 Author 👩🏼💼 Business Advisor & Strategist
My keynote session yesterday, as part of Sedgwick's Growth Week is definitely one for my life-highlights reel. And not only because it was the biggest audience I've presented to online, with 688 attendees! I spoke on the power of self-awareness and self-care for career and personal success, and a few of my key messages were: 🌟 The more self-aware you are, the more likely you are to prioritise self-care 🌟 Leaders with a high level of self-awareness are more effective because they understand how their emotions influence their behaviour 🌟 There are many, many small ways to integrate your self-care into your workday With 77% of employees experiencing burnout at work at least some of the time (Gallup) and 1 in 3 Americans and 1 in 2 Australians feeling lonely every week, something needs to change. While this masterclass won't change the world, it will provide attendees with a couple of practical ideas they can start to action immediately. Some of the comments in the chat from this session have attendees committing to: 🌟 start taking lunch breaks and turning off the computer screen so you can't get distracted - I love this idea! 🌟 turn off their computers after work hours 🌟 spend a little more time outside 🌟 increase their activity and go for regular walks 🌟 meal plan and prep some meals in advance 🌟 not overschedule activities 🌟 set healthy boundaries 🌟 get more sleep 🌟 prioritise their time and stop multitasking 🌟 stand up more 🌟 book a doctor's appointment to make sure everything is working as it should. All small steps that can lead to big and positive changes. Thank you Angie Carter, M.S. IDT for inviting me, to Edwina Feilen for suggesting me, to Jenna Dempsey for managing the tech on the day, and to Marise Maechler and Angela Shelton for the initial introductions. I could do a whole other post on the power of networks! #leadership #connection #selfawareness #selfcare #growthweek #sedgwickgrowthweek
Thanks Mel Kettle for talking to us about the power of self-awareness and self-care! All this week and next, we’re bringing our colleagues together to learn, grow and get inspired, with nearly 40 live sessions on learning and development topics. Mel is one of three keynote speakers selected by our colleague resource group members, and we’re so happy to have her kick things off.

One of the things I find most intriguing is how the characteristics of the new generation differ from my own. 👉 Do we view them the way our parents viewed us, or do we feel more connected to them because we’ve experienced similar changes, and those shifts don’t seem so distant? 👉 At what point in life do we start appreciating things differently, perhaps even feeling content to let the younger generation take the lead? This is one of the topics I plan to discuss at an upcoming speaking club session.
