Director and Specialist Engineering Recruitment and HR Consultant | Attract-Grow-Retain | Passionate about bringing together engineering talent with NZ consultancy firms for the local built environment
Young career-driven NZ professional engineers are the future. So, how do we keep these engineers in NZ? I recruit engineers within NZ, and I've been approached a number of times regarding opportunities in Australia. When I ask why Australia, common responses include: - Availability of opportunities - Project scale and variety - Learning and development possibilities, and better pay. This trend is likely to continue as Australia continues to seek our talent. 𝐈'𝐯𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫: 💡 Increased modernisation of the workplace with technology and innovation. 💡 Offer flexible working arrangements once employees are settled. 💡 Provide diverse project experiences for young engineers to keep them engaged and learning. 💡 Involve graduate and intermediate engineers more in projects. 💡 Actively listen to any suggestions they may have. 💡 Offer clear learning and development plans to demonstrate their value. It's crucial to adopt a future-focused approach towards the next generation of graduates. Let's increase engagement and development, to retain our young talent for the future of the engineering industry. #youngengineers #learninganddevelopment #careergrowth

Deputy Road Safety Coordinator @TotalEnergies E&P Uganda Financial Controller @Safety & Health Association of Uganda Technician Member @Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers Committee Member @UIPE Kampala Branch
Beyond Subscriptions: Shaping the Future of Engineering in Uganda Professional associations go beyond annual subscriptions. They are platforms for shaping the future of our industries and ensuring a brighter tomorrow. Your active participation, whether through voting or engaging in initiatives, is crucial. Case in point: I raised concerns to the #UIPE leadership, under the leadership of Eng. Andrew Muhwezi, regarding several key areas: 1. Number of years for field practice for technician member upgrades: Thanks to their efforts, the waiting field practice period reduced from 4 years to 2 years after completing a bachelor's degree. 2. Technician member recognition: Previously unrecognized, #UIPE's efforts led to technician member registration with the Engineers Registration Board Uganda (ERB): https://www.erb.go.ug/ 3. Opportunities for women in engineering: #UIPE actively profiled, interviewed, and connected female engineers, even sponsoring them for CPDs and networking events. 4. Improved communication: We now have a dedicated #UIPE LinkedIn page fostering better communication. Explore more on the #UIPE LinkedIn page: https://lnkd.in/ek4aWWHj These successes showcase the impact of active participation in shaping our engineering landscape. I want to thank Eng. Andrew Muhwezi and his cabinet for their leadership and dedication in achieving these positive changes. This is why I'm excited to exercise my right to vote in the upcoming #UIPE presidential election. Voting is scheduled for the 8th to 15th of March 2024. Together, let's make a difference! #UIPE #VoteForOurFuture #EngineeringExcellence #ProfessionalGrowth #EmpoweringEngineers

International Engineers.... I’ve noticed that more and more companies are now bringing in international engineers to Australia to meet their local demands. If you are applying from outside Australia (or are planning to) and are serious about moving then one piece of advice I’d like to share which might help you stand out is to have your qualification recognised by Engineers Australia (EA) or initiate the process with EA. This simple step might just get you shortlisted!

The engineering profession takes pride in its commitment to volunteerism, which is evident through the work of PEO’s 36 Chapters. Learn more about our chapter volunteers and their accomplishments. #NationalVolunteerWeek2024 #NVW2024
CEO & Registrar | Board Director | Regulatory Excellence | Corporate Strategy | WXN Top 100 Most Powerful Women | Harvard Business School
Chapters are the local presence for Professional Engineers Ontario across the province. Organized into 5 regions, the 36 Chapters promote the value of engineering to local communities and provide an important link between licence holders, EITs and PEO Council. Often the first point of contact for aspiring engineers, Chapters provide invaluable support to their members through networking events, organizing licence certificate ceremonies, and professional development opportunities. I would like to highlight a few accomplishments from last year: -In 2023, chapter volunteers handed out 1175 framed licence certificates at 60 ceremonies and hosted over 300 chapter events that clocked 15,750 reserved tickets. -150 volunteers came together in November to participate in the 2023 Chapter Leaders Conference and GLP Training Summit; two events that were made possible by the commitment and passion of 16 volunteers on the planning committees. We commend our Chapters for their role in promoting engineering, STEM education and careers in communities across Ontario. No matter your role or location, we’re grateful for your contributions and efforts. #NationalVolunteerWeek2024 #NVW2024

Which technologies do companies prioritize? Do engineering Universities and Colleges educate/train competent and resilient engineers for the field? The Engineers4Europe (E4E) project, has launched its second round of research, including a Europe-wide survey exploring skills, challenges and training among engineers in the field. The goal of this survey is to collect the opinion of current and future engineers on today’s and tomorrow’s challenges for their profession, and the perceived required skill sets and competencies they believe will need to successfully respond to those challenges. TU Dublin, as a partner in the project, is committed to understanding the future horizons that engineers will face, and through the E4E project outputs, how the sector can prepare accordingly. 🕒 It will only take 10 minutes of your time. 👉 Complete the survey here: https://lnkd.in/eWbaDtJz #engineeringthefuture #tudublin #engineeringeducation

From Today's Zoom Meeting: On IEK Engineering is my passion. If I am elected president then in my term IEK will realise 50% of its potential compared to the 20% now. We will be present where we are needed. No IOS will be restricted to Chinese only. We will pursue industrialization. In 2018 we called for a protest because of the issue of foreigners doing jobs that affect Kenyan Young Engineers. If this continues we will involve the law. But first we will get strategic partners and involve international organisations for exchange programmes. On Representation I pushed for the involvement of mechanical engineers in the billing codes. We will also involve electrical engineers. All engineers will be involved in decision making. Committees will be few and organised along strategic goals to focus on efficiency. On the question of whether it's all possible in 2 years Yes! I have a strategy and plan. This is how I have been able to achieve previous goals. IEK will be remembered for the impact it has had on its members. This candidature is for the sake of the institution. We will leave a legacy! #engineering #EngineeringExcellence #today #engineer #iek #zoom #IEKElections2024
