Supporting Our Maids: A New Initiative in Residential Complexes A few weeks back, Vimla, our household help, asked me for a sanitary pad. I happily gave her one, thinking it was just a one-time thing. But when she asked again the next month, and then again a few days back, I got curious and asked her why. She told me it's tough to manage household expenses, and buying sanitary pads is really hard. This really got me thinking. So, I talked to our apartment owners association (AOA), and I'm so happy to share that they supported my idea. On behalf of Pinkishe Foundation, we’ve installed a sanitary pad vending machine near the entry gate of Shipra Srishti in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad. This machine will help the 250+ household helps, female guards, and other workers from underserved communities who come here daily. Here’s how it works: We’ve given some tokens to the female guard at the entry gate. Any maid can take a token from her and use it to get a free sanitary pad anytime they need. The female guard will maintain a register for control and records. She will also coordinate with me for refill requirements. I believe this small step can bring great empowerment. Pinkishe Foundation will keep the machine refilled for 1 year, after which the AOA will take over. A huge thank you to the office bearers of our AOA for their full support! This initiative is something that can be easily replicated in other societies too. Imagine the impact if every residential complex took this small step. It’s simple to set up, and the benefits are immense. Providing easy access to sanitary pads can greatly ease the burden for many women who struggle with this basic necessity. Let’s inspire more communities to take similar steps. If you’re part of an apartment owners association or know someone who is, why not suggest this idea? Together, we can make a big difference in many lives. It’s all about community support and showing that we care. Join us in making menstrual hygiene accessible for all. Share this idea, talk to your AOA, and let's make it happen everywhere! #Empowerment #MenstrualHealth #PinkisheFoundation #CommunitySupport #SmallStepsBigImpact

🌟 Exciting new projects starts in Jakiri Municipality! 🌟 In Jakiri, many girls and women face significant challenges in managing menstrual hygiene due to limited access to affordable sanitary products and insufficient menstrual health education. Our latest project aims to restore dignity and improve well-being by empowering local women to produce reusable sanitary pads and educating the community on menstrual health. Project Highlights: 1️⃣ Train 10 girls and women to sew reusable pads and establish 8 local production centers. 2️⃣ Educate 350 girls and women, and 100 boys and men on menstrual hygiene. 3️⃣ Reduce stigma and promote understanding through community engagement and advocacy. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Canadian Funds for Local Initiatives and the Government of Canada for their generous support in making this impactful project possible. #SELF #Cameroon #Jakiri #MenstrualHealth #Empowerment #SustainableSolutions #CommunityEngagement #HealthEducation #EndStigma #ThankYou #CanadianFundsForLocalInitiatives #DignityAndWellBeing

By paying fair wages to care workers we ensure: 1) Address historical and current harms: Fair wages can address historical and current harms against marginalized workers, including women of color, immigrant women, and people with disabilities. 2) Improve the economy: Fair wages can boost the economy through increased consumer spending and reduced reliance on public benefits 3) Improve financial security: Fair wages can help care workers cover their costs, including care costs. 4) Improve quality of care: Fair wages can lead to better care for clients and patients because care workers are more engaged, motivated, and stable.
Care workers hold up the world, provide essential support to families and individuals in need, are recognized, respected, and valued. But far too many are undervalued and underpaid. VIOLET SHIVUTSE, a caregiver and leader with the Huairou Commission, is working to change that. In this #UNGAxFord video, Violet shares her vision for a world where care work is recognized, respected, and compensated fairly. She calls for a holistic approach that addresses both the immediate needs of caregivers and the systemic inequalities that perpetuate their vulnerability. Join Violet and over 1 million care workers from 41 countries in demanding a world where care is valued as the essential and productive work it is. #UNGA

Their smile. The immeasurable joy on their faces. Their smile is my energy. Their smile is my strength. The voluntary vision remains unshaken and immovable. Teenage girls either poor or rich should never suffer because of the natural call of nature; an unavoidable, inevitable monthly occurrence called Menstruation. Sanitary pads have become so expensive beyond the reach of teenage girls, especially from very low-income households, even adults are complaining. A country where teenage girls no longer suffer because of the unaffordability of sanitary pads is achievable. New Zealand did it for her girls. Scotland did it for her girls. Can we? Thank you all for always supporting this voluntary cause. My target is to provide menstrual hygiene education, NAFDAC certified Washable, Reusable Sanitary pads, and padded pants for 20,000 teenage girls this year. 3,690 adolescent girls, 550 boys have been received so far with in-depth, practical sexual, reproductive and menstrual hygiene education 40,310 eco-friendly NAFDAC-Certified washable reusable sanitary pads have been distributed in three states of Oyo, Kwara and Ogun States For the next few years, they no longer have to worry about monthly sanitary pads and this excites me. Each washable, reusable sanitary pad costs #1,700, and washable padded pants cost #2250. Menstruation is NEVER a choice! Our country often reveals its contrasts—on one end, people enjoy seamless access to resources, while on the other, those in remote areas struggle to meet basic needs and pacify themselves with what little they have. Talking of remote places, Kukkoo conducted a biodegradable pad and period comic distribution and period awareness campaign in Husepur Village in Padra Taluka in Vadodara. 🩸🌱📚👩🏽🏫 Similar to our previous campaigns, these are our observations of our campaign site: 🩸 Hysterectomy is extremely common there, due to the belief that eliminating periods for life would make it easier to manage the demands of heavy farm labor. 🩸Tragically, two women died due to period-related issues, highlighting the dire need for open conversations about menstrual health. 🩸 Gathering women for our session was extremely challenging, but our resilient volunteers visited every household, explaining the importance of period education. This effort led to 48 women and girls from 60 households attending our session in the village's only primary school. While going to these househids we noticed caste-based housing divisions. 🩸 Despite initial hesitation and giggles when mentioning 'period,' some women appreciated our efforts, understanding the importance of attending this period-ed session for the sake of their health. The lack of organized transport meant hitchhiking was our only option to commute from the village. -> Overall, evaluating the impact of our efforts on our beneficiaries' menstrual health and debunking their inherent period taboos makes our efforts feel truly worthwhile. It brings us great joy to know that we've sparked conversations around periods in this village and this fuels us with encouragement to persist our efforts since so much needs to be done and so many need to be served. None of this could be possible if it weren't for our volunteers. They truly are our monumentary examples of change-makers! 🐦🩸 Shehzana Contractor Parinita Agrawal, Yash Rasaliya, Vandita Rajpal #kukkoo #period #periodpositive #menstrualhygiene

Women in Assam are breaking the stigma around sanitary napkins by making their own! Under the #AspirationalBlocksProgramme, the district administration achieved two goals simultaneously with their awareness campaign on menstruation hygiene. They came up with a unique idea for women self help groups SHGs and encouraged them to take up manufacturing of sanitation napkins, which would empower women economically as well as help in breaking the stigma associated with menstruation. This innovative practice has yielded impactful results. Not only has it provided a sustainable source of income for these women, but it has also played a vital role in raising awareness about menstrual hygiene. Through their involvement in the production process, women have gained valuable knowledge and understanding, breaking the societal stigma surrounding menstruation. “It was enriching and so much more!” These were the words of our team member Anshika Pandey, bubbling with excitement after her first-ever #communityvisit to Triveniganj. The tola was alive with women and kids, as the men had migrated to other cities for work. Anshika was amazed by how welcoming everyone was, offering chairs to sit on and sharing their stories. She felt an instant connection, like she had been visiting them for years, even though it was her first time. She loved playing with their kids and, of course, their goats! Her eyes lit up as she recounted listening to their stories and witnessing how they manage everything on their own – from taking care of themselves and the kids to handling food, education, and more. Anshika reflected deeply on how our socio-economic and cultural backgrounds shape our lifestyles and #eatinghabits, directly impacting our health. This was no ordinary experience – it changed her perspective in many ways and underscored the importance of truly immersing ourselves in the field to understand these backgrounds for effective #health interventions. At ZealGrit, we are committed to engaging and working directly on the ground. We also want to bring those experiences to you. Discover Anshika’s vivid experiences and thoughts in her blog and learn about our mission to make a meaningful impact in communities. Hai Pengayom. Do you know how to accompany the elderly? Because accompanying the elderly also has its own challenges. Some of the things to consider include; * Prioritizing the safety of the elderly * Paying attention to nutritional needs * Helping the elderly stay active and engaged in activities Among the mentioned points, one thing that is very difficult to do is to accompany the elderly to ensure they remain happy by helping them stay active and socialize with many people. Currently, we are striving to find ways for the elderly, in their condition which may not allow for many activities, to engage in meaningful activities. This includes exercises with small movements or simply taking walks around the neighborhood to socialize with the local community. We also open a discussion forum for Pengayom who have insights or ideas about the best steps that can be taken for the elderly. Pengayom can contact us via DM or other AYOM CARE social media platforms. We hope these informations would be helpful. Together We Care! -- Follow us to support! The right to a safe and healthy menstruation cycle is a human right. Therefore, at Athena Infonomics, we are extending the conversation beyond #MenstrualHygieneDay. Menarch marks a significant point in the life of menstruating adolescents. There is a global consensus that socio-cultural determinants, coupled with a lack of information or support, significantly impact adolescent girls’ ability to maintain basic #menstrualhealth and #hygiene. At Athena, we're happy to be working on such an important issue at different levels. The Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) project by Tata Trusts aims to address the socio-cultural and infrastructural challenges that hinder safe and effective menstrual practices among women and adolescent girls. Recognizing menstruation as a natural biological process, the project emphasizes the need to overcome societal barriers to ensure safe #MHM. Athena's baseline study benchmarks the knowledge, adoption, and sustained practice of safe and hygienic MHM behaviors, as well as access to MHM products, among girls and women in the four states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Assam. Stay tuned to our page for more updates and insights from this important project!
