As parents of a child with special needs, our minds are consumed with thoughts of protecting and providing for them. One of our biggest concerns is what will happen to our beloved child if something were to happen to us. This worry weighs heavily on our hearts, and we have spent countless hours contemplating a solution that parents like us dread every single day. In our journey to help our daughter and other children like her live independently, we have been tirelessly working on an idea. We envision a facility that not only offers the necessary equipment for their well-being but also provides the unconditional love and protection that parents provide every second of the day. While designing and establishing such a facility may be a lengthy process, our determination to turn this dream into a reality is unwavering. There is not a single day that passes without us pondering the unthinkable: what would happen if we were no longer here? We know that many other parents share this fear. Therefore, if you happen to know anyone who has ideas or buildings they may be willing to donate, we kindly ask you to inform us. Though we already have a few investors on board, we could always use more support. Today is Tourette’s awareness day, and those who know me will know how important it is for me to raise awareness about Tourette’s. It is a condition that is often misunderstood or not spoken about due to stigma, but impacts my family daily. Being a parent of child with Tourette’s has taught me so much about the condition and opened my eyes to the complex nature and impact it has on an individuals life. I was unaware of how painful Tourette’s could be, involuntary tics and repetitive movements on a daily basis are exhausting. Tourettes Action does fantastic work in raising awareness about the condition, and educating on the things that are often unknown, such as the pain associated with tics. Understanding, awareness and empathy all play a part in creating more inclusion for those with Tourette’s to thrive, and most importantly be seen for who they are, and not just by their tics. #TourettesAwarenessDay #Inclusion #TourettesHurts
