The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was created in July 1990. Every July recognizes the month as an opportunity to celebrate the achievements, landmarks, successes, and even the struggles, of those in the disability community. Here are some ways you can become an ally and celebrate and support those with disabilities: *Educate yourself on the significance of the disability rights movement. *Promote accessibility in the workplace, public spaces, schools, etc. *Amplify voices of individuals with disabilities by sharing stories/perspectives. *Advocate for change and support policies and initiatives for disability rights. *Celebrate achievements and accomplishments of individuals with disabilities in all areas of life (work, sports, art, education, etc). Let's create a space where everyone, regardless of ability, can thrive and reach their full potential.
Happy Disability Pride Month!

While we are committed to our collective work to support and advocate for people with disabilities in #Canada, we are lagging behind many of our #G7 nations. Despite some recent 'wins', we must continue to appeal to all levels of #government to help move #Canada to the top of the list! #COSP17 #CSFCRPD #DisabilityRights #CanadianDisabilityBenefit #Standardoflivingindex
Today we kicked off the week at the United Nations 17th Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities #COSP17. We’re excited to have Len Baker, Victoria Pearson, Jay Hira, and Amanda MacKenzie representing MODC at this year’s conference. Looking forward to listening and learning from our international colleagues and friends, and to continue to work to improve disability inclusion. United Nations #CSFCRPD

Great work, Meijer! Also a good reminder that July is Disability Pride Month, which commemorates the July 1990 passage of the ADA and recognizes the achievements of the disability community, as well as their history, lived experiences, and struggles. 1 in 4 Americans live with some kind of disability. As a mom I am striving to raise a child that will embrace and not fear differences he encounters in others - including peers with disabilities. Here's a good article with age-appropriate tips for talking to young children about disabilities (including why it's appropriate to use the term disabled). https://lnkd.in/e-MW435E
We’ve been named one of the “Best Places to Work for People with Disabilities” in the Disability Equality Index (DEI) for the eighth year in a row! As we celebrate this milestone, we’re more inspired than ever to continue our growth journey, ensuring we remain a workplace where every individual feels respected, valued, and empowered. Thank you, Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) for this recognition. Read more: https://bit.ly/3WozlAs #meijercommunity
