Are you a graduating student or upcoming senior? Or already in the workforce? Drop some knowledge they don't teach you in school below 👇 ! Q4 has the distinct pleasure of being the time when companies start posting their fall and summer internship applications. They don't tell you this in school but internships are a great way for you to gain real world work experience to get ready for the work force. If you're following me i've been reposting most of the internships that i've seen so you can scroll my feed and check some of them out. Something they also don't tell you is that your school may not be teaching you the hands on skills that you will need for the workforce, especially if you're interested in niche fields like working in a SOC or being a pentester. BlackGirlsHack / BGH Foundation, which is open to everyone except jerks provides hands on classes 5 days a week to help introduce you and get you acclimated to the skills you'll need in the workforce. What are some of the other things that they don't tell you in school? Feel free to use back of the napkin calculations. I'll start in the comments 👇 . They don't tell you that... #blackgirlshack #interns #internships #blackincyber #cyberwomen #blackintech #college #graduates #workforce #training #skillsdevelopment

Information Systems Specialist | SSCP | Security+ | Pentest+ | CySA+ | Network+ | Project+ | A+ | ITIL 4 Foundations | LPI Essentials
I see many posts on various apps about how to “break into IT”, so I figured I would share with you all what helped me achieve my current role directly out of college. The most beneficial driver that helped me was acquiring an internship and a mentor in my current field. When I first acquired the internship at my current place of employment, I couldn’t even tell you what a subnet was! I thought I wanted to do data analytics but I was unsure. I was extremely green and it showed. Anthony Munoz took me under his wing and shared with me his love and passion for network/system administration and customer support. Allan Campbell has done everything in his power to ensure I have a successful career, has provided me with an abundance of knowledge regarding pretty much everything technological, and has helped provide insight into what the “real world” is like regarding this career. Mark Roberts (retiree) shared with me all of his experience over the years and helped showcase the importance of personality and connections in the field. Over time under their mentorship, I was able to acquire knowledge that made me certain I chose the correct sector of IT (figured out I didn’t want to do data analytics!) and have been sponging up every ounce of information since. That experience helped me develop skills that allowed me to develop a solid foundation and accelerate quickly through my Bachelors degree in Cybersecurity and will help me get through my Master’s beginning this August. Take chances, take internships, and reach out to people that have been in the field for awhile and can give you solid advice. You don’t have to do this alone!

💡Savvy companies across industries are tapping into work-based learning programs, like internships, to address workforce shortages and skills gaps. According to ISC2's “2023 Cybersecurity Workforce Report”, 24% of new cybersecurity workers (those in the industry for one year or less) completed a cyber internship or apprenticeship before getting their first job in the sector. “Internships not only help [employers] complete projects and work that they need to get done, they really expand the pool of eligible people to draw from as you need more people within an organization,” says Matthew Prager, associate chief learning officer at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). 💪We’re proud to help U.S. businesses tap into a highly motivated, tech-savvy college student workforce to meet their immediate needs and build pipelines of diverse, early career talent. ❓How is your company leveraging internships and work-based learning to meet its early talent needs? #internships #earlycareertalent #collegerecruiting #workbasedlearning

Student at GMR College | Aspiring SOC Analyst | Cybersecurity Enthusiast | Network & Malware Analysis | Incident Response | Threat Detection | Student at upGrad
I have been watching YouTube videos on how to get a career as a Security Analyst and there is a common thing in almost every video. Guess what? "Skills matter more than certifications!". But here's the jammer when you browse through job descriptions, you'll find certifications listed as a must-have. I mean, I stumbled upon an intern position that requires a CEH certification! I didn't get it clear why there are requirements for even an intern position. Internships used to be the starting point for learning and growth, but now they're asking of skills, certifications, and licenses. How are we supposed to break into the IT field with all these roadblocks? Am I the only one scratching my head here? Let me know your thoughts. #Skills #Certs #Certifications #InternshipChallenges #CareerStruggles

Applications for Tanium interns have opened! My time in college was awesome (thanks Bellevue College and University of Washington!), but it was my internship at Highspot that convinced me to go into revenue operations. Real-world training, practical experience and developing professional skills are just some of the advantages to working as an intern. If you're a junior eager to gain valuable experience in the tech industry, take a look at the spots below. #tanium #teamtanium #intern #technology #cybersecurity
