If you’re going to make money from listing your product on a Cloud Marketplace (CMP), be clear that it's 𝘕𝘖𝘛 : • Magic source of effortless inbound leads • Directory listing where your TAM will find you • Never ending supply of zero touch purchase orders • Place where Cloud sales people go to find your product • Easy ride that doesn’t require you do put in the hard work 𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁? If you’ve ever used a credit card (preferably your own!), this is an easy analogy. CMP’s are just like a credit card. They are a 𝘱𝘢𝘺𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺. Nothing more, nothing less. When you list your product on a CMP, it’s just like being a retailer (shop) getting a credit card machine for customers to pay with. CMP’s are extraordinarily powerful, unlocking business that you would otherwise not have access to. • Your prospects, and existing customers want to use them. • The cloud sales teams want them to be used. • You want them to be used. But, CMP’s are only a part of the jigsaw puzzle here. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼 ...let’s set this expectation now. More importantly, apply inclusive leadership: set the expectation internally with your Leadership Team: Listing on a Cloud Marketplace does not make you any money.
