Some politicians get it, and others simply don't. Who would have guessed that the Governor of North Dakota does?! At the Youth Housing Coalition, we love seeing elected officials recognize how auto-centric development has degraded communities, disbursed walkability, aided sprawl, and driven up housing prices. #housingadvocacy #housing #housingcrisis #youthhousing

We're calling for a long-term plan for housing alongside the National Housing Federation ahead of the general election next week. Our Head of Operations, Carl Doogan talks about why he’s proud to work for us and why it's important that we support the campaign: “I’m proud to work for Local Space where we strive to provide safe and quality homes for those in need. However, we are in a housing crisis where there are eight million people with unmet housing need, and over a million families on housing waiting lists. That’s why we need a long-term plan for housing to ensure a warm and decent home for more families." #PlanForHousing

In 2023, Governor Tim Walz signed an interagency budget for housing stability that is the biggest investment in #housing and #homelessness in state history. At over $2.6 billion dollars over four years, it will have transformative impacts on the continuum of housing needs from preventing and ending homelessness, to creating a healthy rental market for low-income renters, to closing the disparities in homeownership. Find a full breakdown of this One #Minnesota Housing Stability Budget at https://lnkd.in/gwQiWvQB These investments are already making their way into our communities and represent an important step toward the future we need to create where everyone has a home they can afford.

Ahead of the next general election, the National Housing Federation is calling for all political parties to commit to a long-term plan for housing. When you look at the facts, it’s clear why we support this call. Right now, there are 8.5 million people in England who can’t access the housing they need. This includes two million children in England living in overcrowded, unaffordable, or unsuitable homes. Without a long-term housing plan, research shows that things will get worse, with social housing waiting lists expected to grow to 1.8 million households by 2045 – an increase of more than 50%. We need a #PlanForHousing to end the housing crisis for good: https://lnkd.in/eyFXdCX8

Executive Director, Housing Affordability Institute | Sr. Director of Housing Policy, Housing First Minnesota
For the third time this month, we just wrapped up a discussion with legislators, local government groups, and housing reform advocates. Thank you to our legislative champions for bringing us together for the second in a series of meetings to discuss taking comprehensive action to address Minnesota's housing crisis. "Our research found that people are more likely to vote for a government that has a committed plan, more funding and a desire to support social and affordable housing to help them" Andy Hulme Our Chief Executive spoke to LBC Radio at the weekend about the exclusive research by Savanta we published last week showing the impact the housing crisis is having on people. It revealed that 14.1 million people are putting their lives on hold because of the cost of housing, and that two-thirds of MPs agree that social housing providers need more financial support from government to improve homes and services for residents. #UKHousing #SocialHousing #HousingCrisis

When it comes to choosing a population projection for the Comprehensive Plan updates, the County should plan for more than the medium baseline projection provided by the Office of Financial Management (OFM). Planning for a realistic amount of growth that Bellingham is likely to see over the next 20 years gives our city an opportunity to maximize the benefits of growth by strategically planning and preparing for it. It also provides an opportunity to minimize the impacts of unplanned growth that result in homelessness, a strain on social services, high housing costs, a lack of housing, sprawl and more. If the County adopts the medium-high projection and Bellingham takes 50% of this new growth, at minimum there will be a plan for housing and social services should this growth be realized. . . . The More You Know Monday: 🦄 Myth: Affordable Housing increases crime. ✅ Reality: There is no correlation between safe, decent and affordable housing and crime. What does cause crime is community disinvestment, overcrowding, and the lack of jobs and community services. Failure to build affordable housing leads to blight, conditions of overcrowding, absentee ownership, and deteriorating properties with no alternatives for low income families. #affrodablehousing #housingsc #workforcehousing
