The PIE team had a great time learning from many amazing colleagues who are building and supporting community schools across the nation at the National Community Schools and Family Engagement Conference (CSxFE24). We were honored to spend time with our partners at ACT Now https://lnkd.in/gKnc7HQ9, who have received not one, but TWO Full-Service Community Schools (FSCS) state scaling grants for Illinois. PIE is serving as the external evaluation partner for both grants. The conference opened up with an engaging workshop for FSCS grantees. One key discussion at this session centered around shared leadership. No matter what sector you work in, we found the following reflection question incredibly helpful to consider when building partnerships: What kind of partnership are you looking to create 1) completely shared leadership with equal voice and consensus; 2) advising to get feedback that informs decisions; or 3) solo decision-making? Each type of partnership has its place, and it's important to be transparent at all times.

Local Governments Nurture Community Development As a school leader, I prioritized partnering with our local legislators. Why? Because they establish policy and funding for education. When I assumed my leadership role, one of my first acts was to meet with local delegation members and offer our school as a resource. We would host events such as town halls, round tables, and focus groups to assist our local delegation. In today’s video, we’ll discuss how local governments nurture community development through school district collaboration. #EducationalLeader, Kim “When students are led well, they learn well” #Educational #Leadership

Multi award-winning social impact leader | Chief Executive Officer | BC Business Nonprofit Leader of the Year winner | Finance Executive | Board Director | Mentor
Evidence tells us that barriers to advancement start upon entering the workforce, where young women are surprised to find that it is not an even playing field; or at their first opportunity for promotion, where their skill sets are judged differently. One third of women under the age of 35 have had their competency questioned because of their gender, and 32% of women with children at home report downplaying parental responsibilities to progress in their careers. Beyond formal mentor and sponsor roles, women reported a supportive network helped in advancing their careers. Research suggests these are essential for women leaders, who are more likely to land leadership positions and higher pay if they have an inner circle of close women contacts.* As someone who is an inspiring young leader herself, Abby Mann is a testament to the value and opportunities that mentorship can have on advancing gender equity and inspiring inclusion for the next generation of womxn leaders✊🏽 [* Unobstructed Journeys: DIsnantling barriers to gender equality in the workplace by Minerva BC ]
A rising star at DIVERSEcity, Abby Mann manages the Youth Services portfolio, helping deliver programs that inspire diverse #youth to connect with their community, develop self-confidence and learn new skills. For #InternationalWomen’sDay, we asked Abby what advice has been important to her in her leadership journey. Somehow, we’re not surprised that Abby’s answer focuses on those she helps rather than herself. “One key piece of advice I cherish is the value of #mentorship and empowering the younger generation. Training and supporting them ensures their seamless transition while embracing their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas,” Abby says. “By fostering mentorship, we contribute to a more dynamic and inclusive professional environment, recognizing that our success lies in nurturing the potential of those who will follow in our footsteps.” Learn more about DIVERSEcity’s youth programs here: https://lnkd.in/gx8dJP9x #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2024 #womenleaders #inspireinclusion #youth Neelam Sahota Abby Mann
