Some professional (and therefore personal) news! After 6.5 years and three different career-defining roles spanning across writing, video and audience engagement, I recently left the BBC. I opted for voluntary redundancy after a major restructure in the BBC’s operations in India. I’ve spent the last two months taking a much-needed break and travelling through parts of India, Vietnam and Indonesia. And now, I’m ready for the next chapter. I’m actively looking for freelance or full time jobs in video, content strategy and/or audience engagement. In my last role, I led and shaped the BBC’s English video output from India on YouTube, Instagram and the website, and launched BBC News India’s YouTube channel. In my nine years of being a journalist and a filmmaker, I’ve worn many hats, and have worked for the BBC, the Washington Post, Vox and USA Today. I’ve covered countless major world events (elections in the US and India, the Covid-19 pandemic, the Syrian refugee crisis, G20 - you get the idea) and have worked on a huge variety of stories about “the human condition” in video, text and audio. There’s more! I have years of experience in  - launching new storytelling formats (video, social media, text) and in training journalists and producers globally to make impactful videos for different platforms - audience engagement - most of my work comes from a deeper understanding of audience behavior and the changing media landscape. I was never 100% qualified for any of the 5 content roles I've held so far 🙈🙈🙈 Here's the crazy story 👇🏽 2018 DWIH New Delhi needed a PR & Comms officer with 2 years of comms experience and a journalism degree. I had neither. But one on-the-spot assignment and interview later, I was in. Grateful that Ms. Mock, Aditi, and Aadishree bet on me and Katja encouraged me. 2021 OSlash needed a social media manager who could also be a content marketer (startups are rarely role-rigid). I gave everything I had to my assignment and made it in. I had never written a B2B blog post or email sequence before. But Sakshi taught me to. 2022-23 MyndStories paid me as a personal essayist. But I hadn't ever pitched them with one before. Smitha saw something in a random LinkedIn post I wrote and generously offered: "Will you write for us?" 2023 TripleDart - B2B SaaS Growth Agency needed a stellar copywriter who could also manage a team and client comms. I didn't have leadership experience (but Mahesh, Sudharshan, Sabarinathan, and Shiyam saw enough of it in me to make me a very kind offer). And then had me work with fabulous brands. 2024 I never thought of myself as an editor. But Sudarshan and Praburam did—enough to reach out and follow-up and talk me out of raging imposter syndrome. ClickUp was where I professionally edited other writers' pieces for the first time and it was more joyful than I ever imagined. I wouldn't have executed, learnt, and grown into this version of me without people taking chances on me the way they did. I guess, I'm just saying—work hard, even if you don't know exactly what you're supposed to be working for. And don't self reject.
