It's not reserved for a select few; it's a skill that can be learned and nurtured. During the talk, I emphasized the importance of "thinking in frameworks" and practice to drive groundbreaking innovation. Framework thinking provides structure and clarity, making innovation a deliberate and repeatable endeavor. I also shared a practical example of the supply chain framework, highlighting how innovation can reshape industries through the flow of information, money, and products. Remember, innovation is not about waiting for a stroke of genius but about applying different frameworks and models to challenges. Fundamental concept is Why Not ... Start with Why Not? Or How About ... What IF ...? This line of questioning helps you innovate. Why Not … questions the status quo and challenges the assumptions holding you back from investing resources in unchartered waters. It is one of the great questions to kick off an exploratory effort. How About … initiates conversations around options and possibilities that may otherwise remain untouched. It is well suited to explore alternate pathways. What If … helps foresee different outcomes from different actions or scenarios. It is well suited to exploring the end games. Together these questions inspire teams to innovatively break through barriers. Most growth functions are best served by knowing the Why, How, and What, to rally others around you. How does innovation happen? Sometimes it’s an accident. But more often than not, there's a formula to it.   Sheena Iyengar's book, Think Bigger: How to Innovate, shares an evidence-backed approach to creating new ideas.   It’s a concept that resonates because, in my experience, the most practical innovations occur from taking existing ideas and applying them to new use cases.    But how do you create innovation from scratch? Great innovators of the past would spend countless hours in solitude and deep thought, and validate their findings through peer review and discussion. The book demonstrates the mechanics of innovative thinking.    Many of the old ways of brainstorming and idea generation don’t always work in today’s world. So we applied some of Sheena’s thinking and methodologies to a recent discovery workshop with our leadership team. Instead of everyone throwing ideas out popcorn-style, we all thought independently for a few minutes about a common topic. We looked inward and took the time to write down what was working and not working. We then shared our thinking and aligned around potential solutions and growth opportunities. The result was a meaningful set of actions to better serve our customers and advance our mission of translating scientific innovations from into accessible clinical solutions for patients, healthcare providers, and partners.     For a new perspective on Innovative thinking, pick up a copy of Think Bigger!   Reading is an important part of my personal and professional agenda.
