This year I'm doing the #pushforbetter Push Up Challenge to help raise awareness and funds for mental health. Completing 3,249 push ups across 24 days. In my early 20s, I suffered from debilitating panic attacks. Being a typical young bloke, my approach was to just muscle through it - a strategy we see end in tragedy all to often. This unfairly placed a lot of burden and stress on Simone at the time, who was incredibly supportive. I've since learned how to better manage stress and anxiety, some of which came about simply through emotional maturity. But one thing that consistently gave me reprieve during these periods was exercise. This challenge not only lets me raise funds for a great cause, but helps to promote the inextricable link between exercise and movement, and mental health. I've set an extremely ambitious stretch goal of $5,000 raised. But if we hit it, and for every $500 after, I'll add another 100 push ups to the total tally. Child abuse impacts 1 in 7 children and can lead to a series of mental and physical health challenges like; decreased physical health, depression, anxiety, PTSD, cognitive delay, suicidal tendencies and eating disorders.
