I recently listened to the HumanizeHer podcast featuring Jennifer Dulski, author of Purposeful and founder of Rising Teams. I recognize Jennifer from her time at Google. This 1 hour podcast is full of so many great tips whether you are building and scaling startups, staying at home with kids, or somewhere in between. Jennifer talked about “Festival of Failure” where her teams celebrate failures, sharing mistakes, and learning in a safe and open way. During my time at Google, we didn’t quite embrace failure the same way. We tried but in finance we called them “Blameless Postmortems.” Just the word, Blameless, felt like maybe you were to blame or should feel shame in the failure. I’m going to start celebrating failures whether in my personal or professional life. Perhaps we can all start embracing that failures are part of learning and if you don’t push yourself and fail maybe you aren’t really learning! Another takeaway that I have actually written on a post-it on my computer is DMSU - Don’t Make Shit Up. Don’t get in your head about stuff. Get more information; you don’t know until you know. A lot of time is spent worrying about what ifs and negative stories circling in your head. I haven’t yet read her book as I’m still finishing an 800 page novel for my book club. But as soon as I finish, I’ll be jumping into Purposeful. 📣 Let’s raise women’s voices together - like, comment, and share with your community!! Want to hear the entire story? I'm a big fan of the power of vulnerability in leadership. Jennifer Dulski's story about a "Festival of Failure" is a great example of how transparency can foster a supportive and learning environment. A good reminder to ask yourself how you show up when mistakes happen. 💯 📣 Let’s raise women’s voices together - like, comment, and share with your community!! Want to hear the entire story?
