A big thanks Han Nguyen and Chu Truong for this inspiring and interesting interview of Francois Magnier, Chairman of Archetype Group: it's crucial to be more vocal about the sustainable journey of the construction and architecture industries
📢 IN THE NEWS 📢 Francois Magnier, our President & Co-founder of Archetype Group, has been featured in Nhịp Cầu Đầu Tư, a leading business magazine in Vietnam. As Francois shares in this interview what brought him to Vietnam in the first place, he looks back on the journey of building Archetype Group from when it all started to this day as an international construction consulting firm. Importantly, François points out the critical role of regulations and investments in leveraging the transition towards sustainable construction in Vietnam. “One effective way to make a building more environmentally friendly is by considering construction materials, technologies, and methods. For instance, a building can be designed in a way that provides more room for air circulation and cooling throughout the space, instead of installing high-powered air conditioners. Another practice is to design spaces that maximise natural light, thereby reducing energy consumption, rather than solely employing rooftop solar panels for electricity generation.” said Francois. A huge thank you to Han Nguyen as the reporter and Chu Truong as the editor for the in-depth coverage and for underscoring our contribution to shaping green building construction in Vietnam. 💬 Read the full interview with Francois Magnier to dive into his vision for the future of the Vietnamese green building landscape: https://lnkd.in/gPrjsu2C 🔗 Learn more about our projects and activities in Vietnam here: https://lnkd.in/gzCjBPP7

Cultural construction projects top US$8 billion in value A new report has revealed that in 2023, 192 major cultural infrastructure projects were completed globally for a total investment of US$8.58 billion. The Cultural Infrastructure Index report, put together by AEA Consulting, also revealed that 198 cultural construction projects were announced, representing US$5.62 billion of new spending to come. The number of projects completed increased in both volume and value when compared to 2022. However, the report authors added that while the volume of new projects – both announced and completed – is increasing, “we see the value of investment decreasing, reflecting the current economic uncertainty affecting both the public and private sectors.” Renovation and adaptive reuse were popular project categories, showing signs of sustained growth. Together they comprised 78 completed projects (41% of total). Museums and galleries remained the most popular form of infrastructure for the eighth consecutive year, accounting for 213 announced and completed projects (55% of total), valued at $7.1 billion. The next most popular typologies were performing arts centers, multifunction arts venues, and cultural districts. Development of major cultural infrastructure outside of traditional cultural capitals is rising. In total, projects were recorded in 48 countries and over 275 towns and cities, only 27% of which are among the top 75 global urban centers. Notable examples of major projects outside traditional cultural capitals include Alexandria in Egypt and Sokcho in South Korea. 👇 Powerhouse Brattørkaia is the world’s most #energy #efficient building. Located in Trondheim, Norway, it was designed and constructed as a collaboration between Snøhetta, Entra, Skanska, Asplan Viak, and the Zero Emission Resource Organisation. The building is renowned for being #energy-#positive, meaning it produces more energy than it consumes during its useful life, including construction and demolition, and accounts for the energy incorporated into the materials used for its construction. Of course, we're talking of sustainable materials, including low-carbon concrete, recycled steel, and timber. The structure's façade and roof are covered with solar panels to maximise energy generation, contributing significantly to its energy-positive profile. Salient Sustainability Features: 🟢Energy-positive: Produces more energy than it consumes throughout its lifecycle (operation, construction, and demolition). 🟢Solar panels: Large rooftop and façade panels generate renewable energy, with an annual output that exceeds the building's energy requirements. 🟢Geothermal wells: Used to provide efficient heating and cooling, reducing reliance on conventional energy sources. 🟢Optimised daylight use: The design maximizes natural light, minimizing the need for artificial lighting. 🟢Natural ventilation: The building’s ventilation system is designed to utilize natural airflows, reducing energy used for air conditioning. 🟢Highly insulated envelope: Its thick walls and energy-efficient windows drastically reduce heat loss, enhancing the building’s overall energy efficiency. 🟢Sustainable materials: Recycled and locally sourced materials, including low-carbon concrete and wood, minimize the environmental footprint of the construction process. 🏆It has achieved BREEAM Outstanding certification and the "Norwegian Green Building Award". Today is the last day for submitting concept notes for our Passive Cooling in Southeast Asia request for proposals ⏰ If you have a scalable project that integrates passive cooling strategies and solutions into residential buildings in the region, let us know! More info ⬇ #PassiveCooling #CoolingForAll #ClimateResilience #BuidlingDesign #Architecture #SoutheastAsia #RequestForProposals #ClimatePhilanthropy
❗Request for Proposals❗ We are looking to identify and support innovative, scalable projects that integrate passive cooling strategies and solutions into residential buildings in Southeast Asia. These buildings represent the largest share of energy consumption in the ASEAN building sector. With rising temperatures, rapid urbanization, and increasing incomes, the rapidly growing demand for cooling is exacerbating the situation, posing risks to a currently carbon-intensive energy system and causing more global warming. Through this RFP, we seek to stimulate innovative, actionable projects or initiatives that fill critical gaps on the ground, offering models that promote passive cooling and sustainable building practices in Southeast Asia’s residential building sector, focusing on ultra-low, low-, and middle-income groups. Learn more ➡ https://lnkd.in/evvt5k7F **The deadline to submit a concept note has been extended to June 21** #RequestForProposals #RFP #PassiveCooling #SustainableCooling #CleanCooling #CoolingForAll #SustainableBuildings #SustainableDevelopment #SoutheastAsia #BuildingCodes #CoolBuildings #BuildingDesign #Architecture #Construction #Brunei #Cambodia #TimorLeste #Indonesia #Laos #Malaysia #Myanmar #Philippines #Singapore #Thailand #Vietnam
