Advocate for a globally competitive #AUSTRALIANFUSIONENERGYINDUSTRY with strategic communications expertise.
Best invest in Building and talking about Fusion power, space, maritime propulsion systems and industry as data centres are. Great Headline, Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR People talk about Nuclear (meaning Fission) and fail to discuss fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M The nuclear fission industry is ignorant of what's happening around it. It must pull its collective uranium heads out of the sand and prepare to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an ever-increasing pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place, and soon to be out of Fuel" and merely temporary. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now, see what is happening in the world of the fusion industry. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fuel shortage is increasingly real, https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr

The #EOSAM24 will take place in Napoli, Sept 9-13 ! Link to the program : https://bit.ly/4dxOy8x A perfect opportunity to re-discover ‘Radiometry of wet surfaces’, directed by Lionel Simonot. As everyone can see every day, many objects or #materials change their appearance when they get wet. Most of the time, the object becomes more translucent, its color darker and more chromatic. Beyond these general trends, is it possible to predict these changes in appearance for a given type of surface, and for a given humidity level? This is the question studied in this book, by drawing up a first inventory of available knowledge and ongoing research in multiple fields of application: in remote sensing, to correctly identify surfaces and estimate moisture content; in public lighting, to improve visibility on wet roads; in computer graphics, to render wet surfaces in a more realistic way… This book was initiated by the GDR Appamat, a grouping of research focused on material appearance created in 2019 by the French national center for scientific research (CNRS). In 9 chapters, 26 specialists from various disciplines present different approaches that open perspectives on this field of research. Hopefully, students, engineers, and researchers will be inspired by these ideas to propose future developments. New addition to the #skQCI team This week we are pleased to welcome our new young researcher from France, Younes Benamara. Younes’ background includes simulation work for the studying the morphology of 2D structures and statistical study of systems using different machine learning methods. Supervised by Dr. Djeylan Aktas, his thesis “Experimental quantum photonics for quantum communications” will aim to leverage nonlinear optics to build and exploit photon pair sources for quantum communication . His research will focus on interfacing photonic layers with classical network and post-processing data to create a #QKD prototype to be deployed in an academic Slovak test-bed. This will pave the way to many future new potential research like the possibility to investigate new quantum communication protocols which also rely on the distribution of entanglement. His #PhD is fully covered by European grant #EuroQCI DIGITAL. #quantumcommunication #eduQUTE

The 2024 Clark & Karen Bright Endowed Scholarship Honoring Angus Macleod is awarded to Mustafa Goksu Ozlu of Purdue University Mustafa is pursuing a PhD with research focusing on nanophotonics, plasmonics, nonlinear optics, and advanced optical materials. Much of his work includes studying transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) and transition metal nitrides (TMNs). His Master's degree at Purdue University was funded by the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship. During his Master's, he extensively explored epsilon near zero (ENZ) applications and transparent conducting oxides as a host material. Mustafa says, “My current research primarily revolves around TCOs, exploring their strong and fast optical nonlinearities. I am studying new physics enabled by time-varying optical media, focusing on applications involving time reflection, static-to-dynamic radiation conversion, and temporal plasmonic metamaterials. One of my key projects is centered on photonic time crystals, where the optical permittivity of the material undergoes periodic changes, resulting in unique light-matter interactions. Analyzing the photonic band structures in materials with dispersion, especially TCOs, is critical to understanding these interactions. This research has uncovered potential practical applications of photonic time crystals using TCOs.” #SVC, Clark Bright, #transparentconductors, #ITO, #ENZ, #TCO, #TMN

📣 Call for Application! 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 (𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞) 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 „𝐂𝐔𝐈: 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫” of Universität Hamburg The Cluster of Excellence will offer scholarships to students who are in the master’s programme or will join the programme in the next semester and give them the opportunity to get to know and get involved in the cluster's outstanding research. We particularly encourage international students to apply. The Cluster explores the dynamics of complex systems, bridging concepts and methodologies for the study of ‘small’ well controlled quantum systems to ever greater length scales and complexity, from large molecules to solid state systems and nano systems. It investigates how new functionalities emerge with the increasing complexity and size of a system and how new functionalities can be generated dynamically. International researchers from different disciplines such as physics, chemistry, and structural biology have joined forces to observe, understand, and control these processes in Hamburg. 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 https://lnkd.in/eEtEE8ge Please send your application electronically in a single PDF file to cui.office@unihamburg.de by 15.07.2024. If the application deadline cannot be maintained due to the different international term schedules, it is also possible to submit your application after the deadline (we can consider the application as long as the procedures are not finalized, it might also be necessary to start the scholarship at a later date than 1 October).
