National Apprenticeships Week is coming; 5th -9th February. 🎉 In recognition of National Apprenticeships week, Gloucestershire Primary Care Training Hub will be running a series of activities and communications to highlight the opportunities and potential of Apprenticeships, how they can support your practice and PCN staff and how they can be used to supercharge your and your teams’ careers. Why choose an Apprenticeship? Anyone of any age, at any stage in their career could use an apprenticeship to gain valuable skills and qualifications, They can be undertaken in many subject areas, both clinical and non-clinical. They support retention in role and help those with career ambitions progress within their current organisation, They are an excellent opportunity to increase your talent pool and recruit new staff to your workforce. In most cases there is no cost to the individual or the practice (aside from their usual salary costs) as apprenticeships can be funded through a levy transfer or government funding. As part of Apprenticeships week , the Primary Care Training Hub will be running an Apprenticeships Myth Busting Webinar on Wednesday 7th February at 1pm. It will provide a brief overview of apprenticeships and provide an opportunity to ask an expert panel any questions you may have i.e., how do you employ an apprentice, what apprenticeships are available, or could you benefit from completing one? If you are interested in supporting your practice, existing staff or yourself with an apprenticeship, please sign up to join the webinar using the below link. https://lnkd.in/e_iiBwmt You can also use the link to ask questions in advance of the event. The Primary Care Training Hub, look forward to seeing you there and would encourage you to share the above with all members of your team.

Learning Disability Awareness Week 2024 has arrived, highlighting this year's powerful theme: "Do You See Me?" This theme emphasises the importance of being seen, heard, and valued. As we celebrate diversity and inclusion, it's crucial to spotlight the challenges that students with learning disabilities face. At TRN, our mission is to help every individual reach their full potential by fostering an inclusive environment. We understand that true inclusion involves adapting to meet the needs of each person, whether through specific accommodations or customised learning resources. Our goal is to create a space where everyone can thrive and succeed. #LearningDisabilityWeek #apprenticeships

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), amended in 2004, requires that transition planning for neurodiverse students begin by age 15. During this phase, students should undergo vocational assessments to identify their interests and potential career paths. To aid in the transition to college programs, students need to develop non-academic skills such as self-advocacy, self-determination, and executive functioning. These skills can be fostered through participation in service-learning programs, which combine classroom learning with community service, as well as through internships, apprenticeships, and employment mentorship. To prepare for college, students and their parents should participate in college readiness sessions during the student's senior year of high school.

What does Aus. Gov need to know about apprenticeships and people with disability? I will be attending a Department of Employment and Workplace Relations roundtable this week. These are the guiding questions, I would love to hear your thoughts?? 1.What’s the number one reason stopping people with disability from taking on or finishing their apprenticeships? What can we do to change that? 2.Do you see any initiatives that are making a real, long-term difference to apprentices with disability? 3.What are we missing with apprentices with disability? #AustralianApprentice #Apprentice #Traineeship #Disability #Disabilities #InclusiveEmployment #DisabilityEmployment #Employer #Students #Teachers #DisabilityEmploymentServices #RTO #TAFE #AASN

“College Decision Day” is coming. May 1st is the deadline by which many students must submit their deposit and commit to enrolling at the college of their choice. There are some common variables that students learn to compare when researching and visiting colleges: Location, Cost, Scholarships and Financial Aid, Size (campus size, number of undergraduate students, class sizes, etc.), Strength and Availability of Majors, Retention and Graduation Rates, Internships, and Gut feelings. But, for students with disabilities, there is additional information that can be useful in making a decision to commit to a particular college including: - Opportunities for student engagement (Student participation in clubs and campus activities directly correlates with retention, persistence, and success) - General course requirements including foreign language (Don’t assume this can be waived!) - How accessible the disability support services office and staff are - Ability to engage in a reduced course load when necessary, and - Residential accommodation options. For more information, check out the blog I wrote for NESCA with questions to ask about each of these bullet points. #collegetransition #collegedecisions #transitiontocollege #postescondarytransition #transitionplanning #goingtocollege #collegecounseling #IEP #specialeducation
