I recently completed the first unit of the Google UX Design course on Coursera, which took me nearly a month. Although the estimated time for completion was around 19 hours, I took detailed notes to aid my learning and retention. The course is incredibly detailed and professional, providing a systematic understanding of foundational UX concepts such as user-centred design, the design process, accessibility, and equity-focused design. Even though I had previously self-taught some UX design principles, this course introduced me to a more structured approach and covered many details I hadn’t considered before. I also gained insights into various UX research methods, the design sprint, the product development lifecycle, and important nuances in UX research, including different types of biases. This course has deepened my understanding and appreciation of UX design, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in this field. I am excited to continue with the remaining six units of this course to further enhance my skills and knowledge in UX design.

I'm on a roll, ya'll. Still have some more to go before I complete the whole Google UX Design Professional Certificate (it's very long). While this course is aimed at people new to this career path, I've found it to be a great refresher, especially the module on UX research that identifies the different kinds of research and their pros and cons. The module about the different specialties of UX Design also helped me identify some opportunities to explore beyond the more generalist approach I'm accustomed to (perhaps a future specialty in motion or interaction design).

I'm excited to announce I have completed the Foundations of User Experience (UX) Design in the Google UX Design Certificate program on Coursera. My journey into exploring UX design started a few years ago out of my desire to use my passion for art, technology, and helping others to improve people's lives in meaningful ways. I've learned more about UX design, the design thinking framework, and best design practices. It was interesting to see what happens in a design sprint and how team members collaborate. I also learn fundamentals about UX research, methods, and how to identify and prevent biases in the design process. It's overwhelming knowing there's more to learn about UX design. Yet, it's also comforting to know that design is about continuous learning, involving iterations of thinking and building strategies over time. I'll do my best to embrace the journey while also being open to how destinations can change and evolve each step of the way. Next, the second course and building the first part of my first UX design portfolio project! #uxdesign #lifelonglearning
