Last week I woke up early to go rowing, and it was raining. That means that day we are canceled to go out on the water because of winds and rain. My first instinct was to go back to sleep because, of course, that’s what sounded best at 5 a.m. But I remembered why I was getting up in the first place - to live out my value of balance - feeling centered and doing something that creates an environment for me to be fully present. Instead of getting back under the covers, I went to a yoga flow class down the street at a studio I’d been eying for a while (maybe years?). Reasons I hadn’t gone to that yoga studio: - Lack of time - Don’t know anyone there - Can I still do yoga? It has been years… - Body comparison “I don’t look like others here” - Comparing my ability to others In that moment, I thought about how I held that time for my value of balance and signed up for the class. I held the boundary of showing up for myself and my values. My boundaries are for me, to show care for my values, and myself. And in that yoga class, at 90 degrees inside, I did feel fully present. Even though I wasn’t out on the water, I still was stretched metaphorically and physically that morning.
