Happy International Day of Education. 24th January is the International Day of Education. Learning for lasting peace is the theme of the international Day for Education 2024. The school prepared citizens for the society. The content children and youth learn in school is vital to the type of society we want. Thus our contents and approach should be inclusive in order to foster sustainable peace.

Qualitative Researcher | Higher Education | Learner Mobility | All Things Experiential Education and WIL
New by me! I have a new publication out in the Canadian Journal of Higher Education: "Meso-Foundations of Experiential Education in Ontario Universities". This article pulls together data and findings from my ongoing doctoral research on experiential education in Ontario. I trace the development and institutionalization of experiential education in the province's universities using the Strategic Mandate Agreements. These accounts allowed me to weave a narrative of how universities have gradually adopted and framed experiential education. Interestingly, I find some disconnect between the types of experiential education that is on the rise, and how universities are framing it. While co-curricular forms have actually expanded the most, universities tend to frame experiential education around work-integrated learning. I also consider Ontario's post-secondary landscape and how "institutional type" might explain these patterns. To be sure, the SMA's represent official messaging between institutions and the province. There is surely more work to be done to tease out intra- and inter-organizational dynamics. But, at least this work sets the groundwork for that! Interested readers can find the article here:

Delighted to see continued growth across high school and university segments (and soon, employer and workforce) from our partners in #Japan. Higher levels of English proficiency remains a goal of the Japanese government but benchmarks have yet to be met: "According to a survey conducted by Japan’s Ministry of Education Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, only 49.2% of third-year junior high school students had an English proficiency level at least equivalent to CEFR A-1 level, while just 47.7% of third-year high school students were proficient in English to a level of at least CEFR A-2. The proficiency of the junior-high and high school students rose 2.2 and 2.6 points, respectively, compared to the 2021 survey, but neither reached the government’s benchmark of 50%." #englishlanguage #itepexam #englishtest Hiroshi Kagawa
