Modern Ukrainian independence is a continuation of the struggle for independence that began during the existence of the Ukrainian People's Republic - “УНР” in 1917-1921. After the collapse of the Russian Empire, the Ukrainian people proclaimed their independence for the first time in modern history and created their own state. However, due to internal and external challenges, primarily the military aggression from Soviet Russia, the UPR could not maintain its independence and was occupied by the bolsheviks. And finally, thirty-three years ago, Ukraine achieved its long-awaited independence. However, modern Russia, like all its previous iterations, harbors an irrational fear of Ukraine existing as an independent state. As a result, Ukraine now has to resist the largest military aggression since World War II, coming from Russia. This Saturday, August 24, we, along with all of Ukraine, will celebrate Independence Day. I invite everyone to join the celebration at Calgary's Ukrainian Pioneers Park. Come and show your support for Ukraine, as a portion of all proceeds will go directly to support the Ukrainian resistance. This year, Ukraine celebrates its 33rd Independence Day.  We have been fighting for independence, freedom, and our right to be Ukrainians for centuries, and we continue to do so today defending ourselves against Russia. We will undoubtedly prevail in the fight against the enemy. Ukraine wasn’t born 33 years ago, with the restoration of independence, but much earlier — over a thousand years ago. Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, was founded in the fifth century of the Common Era, while Kyivan Rus, the first state located on the territory of Ukraine, was founded in the ninth century. With over a thousand years of history of Ukrainian statehood, freedom is in our DNA, and we will win any fight for it. We invite you to explore Ukraine and its history. It’s “anniversary” no one would like to exist, the full scale invasion into beautiful Ukraine. 🇺🇦 The ongoing horrors and long lasting consequences brought by full scale War are inconceivable in scale. The time was cut in two , to past and present but with future to be fought for. *In the past Sadly but in part this dark day did not came all of a sudden, the precursors were events in Donetsk and Luhansk 2014, which were not taken seriously enough. It was hardly expected or seemed believable, but there were little actions to “nip it in the bud”(from Ukranian side as well by not marking it properly). This fact is not for an embarrassment but for reconciliation and alertness sake🔔. *At present The support given to Ukraine by allies (considering the scale of collaterals and resources required) is strong and is met with big gratitude. 🤝 Staying alert and keep acting & supporting, cherishing love to life and values behind it are the key solution. Stay United , stay with 🇺🇦 for returning peace to Europe. *In the future So that younger generations could see only peaceful skies…

Today, Ukraine celebrates the 105th anniversary of promulgating the Act of Unification of the Ukrainian People's Republic (UPR) and the West Ukrainian People's Republic (WUPR). Also on this day, a year earlier, in 1918, the independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic was proclaimed. These two events are significant in our history because they became fundamental milestones in the creation of the Ukrainian state and crowned the desire to unite Ukrainians who were divided by the borders of the empires of that time. Now, we continue the fight for our unity and freedom. And every day, we prove that Ukrainian people are the only ones who, like a century ago, aspire to live in a free Ukraine. Today, our unity is our weapon. Together, we will defeat the enemy and build a strong Ukraine.

For those of us outside Ukraine, bearing witness to this heartbreaking and horrifying humanitarian disaster and the outright destruction of a revitalized Eastern European democracy: In whatever way we can, let us extend our hearts, prayers, and practical support ... And use our voices and whatever resources we can bring to bear, exhorting the leaders of our own countries worldwide to help bring about a lastingly peaceful resolution with speed and care. One which restores Ukraine's democratic autonomy fully and safeguards its sovereignty -- and legitimate borders. And in the meantime, endeavour to support Ukrainians now sacrificing so much -- including their very lives -- to save their country and democracy: De facto and de jure, bravely becoming a human bulwark against the outrageous inhumanity and infamy of Putin's tyranny. Today, Sakartvelo (Georgia) celebrates its Independence Day. Annexed by the Russian Empire in the early 19th century, Georgia declared its independence as a Democratic Republic on May 26, 1918. Just three years later, the Soviet Russian occupation on February 25, 1921, buried the Georgian state for 70 years. On February 21, 1921, the Constituent Assembly adopted Georgia's first constitution while the Georgian Armed Forces fought Russian troops in Tbilisi. The Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, one of the most progressive in Europe at the time, guaranteed universal suffrage, rights for ethnic and religious minorities, and abolished capital punishment. Despite Russian terror, Georgia declared and restored its independence, built a state, and made significant strides toward integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions. Today, Russia poses the same existential threat to Georgian statehood. Russia is the sole enemy of Georgia's sovereignty and independence, regardless of pro-Russian conspiracies that the current government spreads. Georgia will be victorious, free and European. Ukraine formally celebrates Christmas on 25 December for the first time this year—a change that carries more than merely spiritual weight and represents the latest attempt to eradicate Moscow’s influence. In a snub to Russia, Volodymyr Zelensky signed legislation in July to move the date for the Christmas public holiday from 7 January, when most Orthodox believers celebrate, to today. Understandably, many Ukrainians have embraced the switch with enthusiasm, seeing it as a positive step that they hope can further strengthen their cultural shift away from Russia. Shortly before the full-scale invasion, I celebrated Orthodox Christmas Eve in beautiful Lviv (pictured here), followed by Christmas Day in Kyiv. In numerous conversations with locals, it was clear that many were grappling with Soviet legacies that continued to weigh on them, in hopes of eventually overcoming the imperial remnants and separating themselves from the neighbour who was already actively threatening their statehood and sovereignty. The full-scale invasion only expedited this process. Christmas, not unlikely perhaps every other aspect of daily life these days in Ukraine, is tightly tangled up in the country’s war with Russia. However, gone are the days of celebrating on 7 January. This is a positive, even if a comparatively small, step in the right direction and more importantly away from that, which has been holding Ukraine back similarly to other post-Soviet countries that continue to wrestle with the notion of separating themselves from this very concept: being viewed through the prism of a post-Soviet state. For now, Ukraine is living through another Christmas at war. Western aid is waning, ammunition is running low. Some say victory for Ukraine appears elusive, and the stalemate is as frozen as the weather in many parts of the country. But somehow, it is difficult to imagine anything but an eventual win for Ukraine — because, every now and then, the world is fair. In the 2 years since the full-scale invasion and 10 years since the beginning of the war, we have all grown stronger in our beliefs. Some believed in unity and the nation as a cohesive organism, some began to trust strangers more, some finally believed in themselves. But the whole world definitely and unequivocally believed in Ukraine. And that faith is in everything: in words, in deeds, in a warm look after the question «where are you from?», and in large-scale humanitarian, financial and military aid. Recently, we have asked a lot of well-known politicians, public figures, activists and ordinary citizens. We asked them to stand for Ukraine, to be courageous with Ukraine, to support Ukraine, to vote for Ukraine, to unite for Ukraine... And you, dear world community, did all this together with us! Because belief is the opposite of doubt. Belief does not need any proof. Belief is devoid of the fear of error, because for us there are no options - light must conquer darkness! World, on February 24, in Amsterdam, San Francisco, Warsaw, or Washington DC, let’s unite, let’s show how much we believe and how many of us there are! Let’s believe in the best, the most desirable, the most intimate for everyone, and at the same time the only thing for all of us! Come with your parents, children, loved ones, friends, colleagues and pets! You are important for Ukraine! Let’s unite and believe! Let’s believe in the Light. Let’s believe in Love and Goodness. February 20th is the Day of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes in Ukraine. It commemorates the heroism of the participants of the Revolution of Dignity, who sacrificed their lives for a dignified European future for Ukraine. The Day of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes is a day of mourning, as it is associated with the loss of citizens during the Revolution of Dignity and at the onset of Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine. However, it also serves as a reminder to honor the struggle for a dignified and free life, as well as the sacrifice and courage displayed. #fivesystems #fivesysdev #fivesystemsdevelopment #heavenlyhundredheroes

Today is German Unity Day, a celebration of the #reunification of East and West Germany in 1990. This day is a powerful reminder of the value of unity and the struggle to achieve it. Germans, more than anyone, understand the importance of a nation’s right to remain whole and free from division. #Ukraine is fighting for its unity and sovereignty against Russian aggression. It’s crucial that Germans, with their own history of overcoming division, support Ukraine’s fight for independence. Insisting that Ukrainians give up in their struggle is not only insensitive but also disregards our right to self-determination. Just as Germany once fought for its unity, Ukraine deserves the same support and understanding in its pursuit of peace and integrity.
