A new center of excellence has opened at the #Tartu-based #Estonian Military Academy (Kaitseväe Akadeemia), and among other things will allow research and development in the field of cyber warfare, daily Postimees AS reports https://lnkd.in/d8dE8Sm9. #Postimees says that the new facilities enable state-of-the-art electronic warfare #R&D activities, and the testing, while the academy's chief, Brig. Gen. Vahur Karus, (pictured) added that: "In contemporary warfare, we cannot afford the luxury of not talking about electronic warfare, as it has become a daily presence," citing the Ukraine and Israel-Hamas wars as examples of this. "Every officer who graduates from the academy must therefore be aware of what is happening in today's technology and what tools will be used against them on the battlefield from the very first moment," Brig. Gen. Vahur Karus went on. Military personnel from other units within the Estonian Defense Forces (EDF) and employees of partner institutions will also be able to use the facility. The Center of Excellence for Electronic Warfare was launched in 2022 and focuses on three main areas: teaching, research and development, and testing of existing equipment and the equipment to be acquired and is also an official testing center for the recently unveiled NATO - Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) program. https://lnkd.in/dWPTqVkw

The U.S. Army continues its charge to implement modern electronic warfare capabilities. A provision in the House National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the bill which funds the US Department of Defense and has a hand in setting its priorities, would have the Army set up an Electronic Warfare Center of Excellence. This CoE would be responsible for training and doctrine development for electronic warfare going forward. This establishment would remove those responsibilities from the Cyber Center of Excellence where they currently reside. There's still a long way to go with the current NDAA, but giving electronic warfare co-equal visibility and priority with cyber warfare is recognition by the Army of the importance of EW in future conflicts. That being said, I was once given a good warning about Centers of Excellence...building a Center is easy; making it Excellent is very hard. #electronicwarfare #ew #army #cyber #ndaa #dod https://lnkd.in/euatJgrQ

Army to close active information operations command as it moves those ops to smaller specialized units - Task & Purpose "The Army is closing its last standing active-duty information operations command as part of the military’s shift to joint operations and a broader realization that information warfare is and will be significant in future wars. With that in mind, the Army wants soldiers conducting information operations closer to the future fight and integrated into the different geographic regions." Military training scenarios need to reflect complex and dynamic real-world situations. At Calian Group we integrate the latest lessons learned into military training scenarios to deliver realistic, relevant training that reflects the challenges of the modern battlefield. This means developing exercise scenarios and content to test cybersecurity, information resilience against disinformation, and management of airspace increasingly being used by commercially sourced drones. 🛜👀 The UK is researching a substitute communication system to maintain weapons and ammunition development without Wi-Fi connectivity. Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) focuses on Light Fidelity (Li-Fi), a technology leveraging visible light, infrared, or ultraviolet waves to transmit data between devices. Partners include the agency’s Weapons Operating Center and Digital arms, the UK Strategic Command Defence Digital, and local companies Consolite Technology and Centiant Intl. Ltd. “There are many reasons why Wi-Fi poses a problem for military users,” Consolite Technology CEO Nick Rice explained. “Li-Fi provides radio frequency-free wireless data for explosive atmospheres, as we see in Gosport.” “Li-Fi also provides data where increased cyber security protection is desirable, and typically much faster data, more than 10 times the sort of speeds we see in our homes.” #military #army #defense #defence #defenseindustry #defenceindustry #defensetech #defencetech #militarytech #technology #innovation #uk #wifi #lifi

“We have to be able to continue to add pressure to the adversary in a war in order to seize the advantage and achieve our objectives...Data is the weapon that will allow this to happen, and data processing is the way to do that.” - Josh Koslov, Commander 350th Spectrum Warfare Wing - While EW encompasses a constantly growing number of domains, one of the most vital areas is also represents one of the oldest military organizational challenges: positional data, navigation and timing. A lack of coordination around this crucial triangle has spelled defeat for countless armies throughout history. - Without relying on an existing communication system or grid, OTTO Lynq PRO devices create an ad-hoc network among users, enabling team members to share location, messaging, and timing data with one another and command units while maintaining a low risk of detection / low risk of interception. - The security and accuracy of Lynq PRO data gives operators a decided advantage in a shifting, often unpredictable space. Is that light I am seeing? Army Examining What Electronic Warfare Means in The Future, ‘Tranching’ Capabilities to Units By Mark Pomerleau; 30 May 2024 Dr. Alex Miller. Senior Advisor for S&T, Vice Chief of Staff. U.S. Army, speculated that the Combined Arms Center will be involved for concepts of operations that don’t fit cleanly into one warfighting function; the Space and Missile Defense Command and Army Cyber Command will have their roles; and then the program executive office will play its part related to acquiring, fielding and training capabilities. https://lnkd.in/eAcMer3c

Innovative Enterprise Architect | Strategic IT Solutions | Driving Innovation and Efficiency | Leading Cross-Functional Teams | Aligning Technology with Mission Objectives
U.S. adversaries like Russia, Hamas, and the Houthis are deploying "formidable" electronic warfare (EW) tools, senior U.S. military officials warn. They are aggressively contesting the electromagnetic spectrum critical for military communications, targeting, and situational awareness. The Army's Brig. Gen. Ed Barker highlights that adversaries possess capabilities that can be "quite overwhelming" for U.S. forces. The Pentagon must dominate the EMS or prepare to operate in contested environments. Interoperability between low-cost EW systems is crucial, moving away from relying solely on high-end capabilities. The Air Force's Col. Josh Koslov emphasizes the importance of aligning warfighters and acquisition for developing the right EW capabilities. The U.S. needs systems to counter adversary approaches leveraging mass low-cost tools for strategic impacts. #ElectronicWarfare #MilitaryTechnology #NationalSecurity #ElectromagneticSpectrum #AdversaryCapabilities #SpectrumWarfare #PentagonAcquisition #MilitaryModernization
