Is diversity in hiring holding your company back?........ I do not mean the traditional factors of Race/Gender/Age/Disability etc..... Most companies do this really well, but can you really claim your company is focused on diversity hiring if you do not hire from outside your industry vertical? Whilst we all know you can "Stick with what you know" the downside is that you eliminate/miss a larger % of the actual talent pool for that particular role/function you are hiring for and missing out on some great talent. Whilst we need to appreciate there are some functions/skills that need specific industry expertise, there are many functions/skills that are easily transferable into other industry sectors. Just because you have always hired that way, doesn't mean it's the best way to hire. #diversity #hiring #talent

When I started off recruitment, I thought it was a fair playing field and everyone had an equal shot at roles if they had the required experience. It didn't take long for me to realise that was not the case, and there was an imbalance in opportunity. That is why I have added inclusion consultancy to the work we do here at Worket Consultancy. A few examples of bias that I hoped would be well out of date - but are still happening right now: - Preference for specific academic journeys, with a tangible leaning towards top-tier private schooling or universities. - Favouring candidates with names that sound more familiar or align with their own cultural background. - Job descriptions that use gender-specific language or reinforce stereotypes can discourage specific demographics from applying. Certain companies adding a rainbow to their LinkedIn Page for the month of June and thinking that is a sufficient contribution to inclusivity… At IntaPeople: STEM Recruitment , we value inclusive recruiting and can show you how to do it too. As IntaPeople’s Inclusivity Champion (self-given title), I believe it’s necessary to highlight the importance. Making your company inclusive on a permanent basis (not just because it’s the hot topic at that particular time) is not only the right thing to do, but it will also greatly increase your candidate attraction. In a 2023 survey from YouGov, 2 out of 3 UK workers said that the acceptance and inclusion of employees from all backgrounds is important to them when searching for jobs.
