This week, we highlight Eurospin's innovative approach to reducing food waste with their sustainable recipes initiative in Italy. Eurospin is helping consumers make the most of their groceries by offering recipes that prioritize sustainability and minimize waste. These recipes are designed to utilize leftover ingredients and reduce the amount of food that gets thrown away. Some standout examples include: 🍫 Chocolate and ricotta bites with leftover cake 🍞 Sweet bread pudding with nuts and raisins 🌿 Herb dumplings 🍚 Savory rice fritters with yogurt sauce 🍓 Banana, strawberry, and leftover cookie smoothie Food waste is a global issue, with 31% of all food produced going to waste. In Europe alone, millions of tons of food are discarded each year. By providing practical solutions like sustainable recipes, Eurospin is making an impact on reducing food waste. Eurospin’s initiative not only helps the environment but also supports consumers in adopting more sustainable cooking habits. This effort is a perfect example of how retailers can engage with their customers to promote sustainability and reduce waste. 🚀 Let's get inspired by Eurospin's commitment to sustainability and take steps in our own kitchens to reduce food waste. Every small effort counts towards a greener future. 👏 Well done Alessandro Penasa, former President of Eurospin and actual Director of DAO #SmartHappy #FoodWaste #Sustainability #RetailInnovation #Eurospin #ClimateAction #Inspiration

🌍 Continuing our journey toward a more sustainable future, let's focus on the twelfth action in our list of 37 ways to help the environment through our food choices: "Preserve Food Through Canning and Pickling." 🥒🍓 Here’s why preserving food is beneficial for the environment: 1️⃣ Reduces Food Waste: Preserving fruits and vegetables through canning and pickling extends their shelf life, reducing the amount of food that goes to waste. 2️⃣ Minimises Packaging: Home-preserved foods eliminate the need for disposable packaging, reducing plastic and paper waste. 3️⃣ Supports Seasonal Eating: By preserving seasonal produce, you can enjoy fresh, local fruits and vegetables year-round, reducing the need for out-of-season imports. 4️⃣ Encourages Local Sourcing: Preserving food at home often involves sourcing fresh produce from local farmers, which supports the local economy and reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation. 5️⃣ Promotes Healthier Eating: Homemade preserves can be made without artificial additives, preservatives, and excessive sugars, resulting in healthier, more natural food options. Here’s how you can start preserving food through canning and pickling: Learn the Basics: Familiarise yourself with safe canning and pickling methods through books, online resources, or local workshops. Gather Supplies: Invest in essential canning supplies such as jars, lids, a canner, and utensils. Choose Fresh Produce: Select fresh, high-quality fruits and vegetables for preserving to ensure the best flavour and nutrition. Experiment with Recipes: Try different recipes and techniques to find your favourite flavours and combinations. Share your Creations: Preserve extra batches to share with friends and family, promoting sustainable practices within your community. By preserving food through canning and pickling, we can reduce waste, support local agriculture, and enjoy delicious, home-made preserves all year long. Let’s embrace these time honoured techniques to make our food choices more sustainable and environmentally friendly! Stay tuned for our next instalment as we continue exploring more ways to make our food choices environmentally friendly! 🌱💚 #FoodPreservation #CanningAndPickling #SustainableLiving #ZeroWaste #LocalFood #ClimateAction

🌱 **Fighting Food Waste and Becoming Greener in Restaurants: Ethical Strategies for Profitability** 💡 In the restaurant industry, food wasteis not only an ethical challenge but also a significant financial burden. By adopting sustainable practices, restaurants can minimize losses, become more eco-friendly, and boost profitability. Here's how: 1. Inventory Optimization: - Smart inventory management ensures that ingredients are used before they spoil. Use technology to forecast demand more accurately and purchase only what’s needed, reducing waste and cutting costs. 2. Portion Control: - Avoid over-serving by setting portion sizes that satisfy customers without excess. This reduces food waste, cuts costs, and enhances the customer experience by focusing on quality over quantity. 3. Upcycling Ingredients: - Use trimmings or leftover ingredients in creative ways, like making soups, sauces, or garnishes. This reduces waste and creates new high-margin dishes. 4. Composting and Donation: - Unusable food scraps can be composted or donated to local farms, reducing landfill contributions and turning waste into a resource. Edible excess food can be donated to food banks, reinforcing ethical responsibility. 5. Sustainable Sourcing: - Partner with local and sustainable suppliers to minimize the environmental footprint of your supply chain. This not only supports the community but also attracts conscious consumers, driving customer loyalty and revenue. 6. Energy Efficiency: - Invest in energy-efficient appliances and practices to reduce utility costs and environmental impact. Lower operational expenses mean higher margins and a greener footprint. By reducing waste and adopting sustainable practices, restaurants can protect the planet, support the community, and simultaneously boost their bottom line. #Sustainability #FoodWasteReduction #EcoFriendlyRestaurants #EthicalBusiness #ProfitWithPurpose #GreenBusiness #RestaurantManagement
