🌟 Reflecting on a Journey of Impact 🌟 Every stage of my career has been a stepping stone, each with its own set of rewards and lessons. From my early days, navigating the complexities of the federal government, to now, where my path has intertwined with incredible organizations making real-world impacts, the journey has been profoundly enriching. One of the most pivotal realizations came during my service in government – the undeniable gap between the hands-on work of practitioners and the decision-making processes at higher levels. It highlighted the critical need for a bridge; a voice that could carry the invaluable insights from the ground to the halls where policies are shaped. Today, I find immense joy and honor in being that bridge. Partnering with organizations, like Safe House Project, I have the privilege of amplifying their voices, advocating for their causes, and ensuring their groundbreaking programs are recognized and supported. Witnessing the direct impact of this collaboration, seeing policies evolve in ways that genuinely benefit those on the ground, is beyond rewarding. It's a reminder of the giants among us like Kristi Wells - those tirelessly working to make a difference in their communities and beyond. To walk alongside them, to be part of their journey, and to play a role in elevating their work, is a privilege I hold dear. I love my job not just for what I do, but for who I get to do it with. Partnership Spotlight: Dogwood Consulting x Holly City Development Corporation We are thrilled to share a journey of collaboration and impact with our partners, Holly City Development Corporation in Millville, NJ! HCDC embarked on transformative projects that have left a lasting mark on the Millville community and the economy over the last decade - we are excited to share the ways we’ve been able to demonstrate and expand their impact. Community Impact Demonstrated: In our partnership with Holly City Development Corporation, we had the privilege of preparing an impact report detailing the remarkable community transformations achieved over the past 10 years. Holly City Development Corporation focuses on empowering community members through initiatives in employment, housing, and family strengthening while providing vital COVID-19 health and business supports throughout the pandemic. In addition, reporting revealed over $22 million was acquired and invested by Holly City Development Corporation in community capital projects that include business development centers, healthcare centers, and the acquisition of cornerstone funding that makes the Millville Public Library the largest and most accessible library in Cumberland County, NJ. Surveying Community Members for Grassroots Growth: As part of the 2022 New Jersey Economic Development Association grant we conducted a comprehensive landscape and community survey to shape strategic economic and community goals in Millville, NJ. This work led to the development of six work groups that focus on support of the unhoused population, small business development, and partnerships between healthcare systems, businesses, and nonprofits. Neighborhood Revitalization: One of our proudest achievements is our evaluation of the Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit efforts. The U.S. Department of Transportation Office of the Secretary’s Office of Public Engagement is organizing a one-day Public Engagement Workshop in Atlanta on Wednesday June 12. The workshop will bring together community leaders and members of the public to learn how the transportation decision-making process works, and how all parties can ensure the public’s voice is heard and considered as decisions are made. Transportation professionals will also be attending the workshop to learn about best practices to ensure meaningful public involvement in transportation plans, projects, and programs. The workshop will include a session about making equitable transportation decisions, and how your involvement can make a difference in the transportation system in your community. You will also have the opportunity to share and learn from fellow community leaders about different successes and challenges engaging your respective communities on transportation projects and plans, from the planning to construction phases and in between. Whether you have engaged in the transportation decision-making process before, or this is your first time learning about it, we encourage you to consider attending this workshop.
