We’ve been noticing more touchscreens in fast food restaurants. This seems to be a convenience benefit, but what is really going on in people’s heads? One of our clients installed similar touchscreens in hospital cafeterias to help manage staff costs in food and beverage. They made a surprising discovery – revenue and basket size went UP. The insight? People like to browse and choose and not feel the pressure of the person behind them or the person at the till when they order. It would be interesting to know if – similar to the hospital cafeteria - fast food order sizes are going up based on this insight as well. Grrr…we're now hungry for burgers.

If no one wants to buy this #junkfood for 15$ or 10$ then why try to sell it for 5$? It is still J-U-N-K. A better plan is to turn #fastfood into #fairlyquickfood that is innovative. The sloppy joe-diner-sweet potato pie-malt drink zeitgeist simply does not exist anymore. It's not a magic number that these empires should be searching for- with continually dropping revenues the message is clear: it is time to search for a new a magic menu.
