Preceding week marked the end of my internship at Pakistan Oilfields Limited. POL is a name of resonance in the Exploration and production company in Oil and Gas industry & I will cherish this experience for the learning it offered and the hospitality I experienced here. POL is a profitable company that mostly doesn't dilute its equity much and focuses on providing more returns in the form of interim and yearly dividends to its investors already registered. This vision appeared attractive to me as it was in tight contrast to the latest theory I studied in my first year of my MBA at LUMS. Working in this dynamic industry has exposed me to the complexities of the energy sector and the critical role of oil and gas in powering the nation's economy. During my internship, I had the privilege of contributing to various aspects of the company's operations. I learned about the exploration phase, where geologists and engineers analyze seismic data and conduct drilling operations to discover new reserves. Witnessing the discovery of potential oil and gas fields was an exhilarating experience. Additionally, I gained insights into the production phase, where sophisticated technologies are used to extract hydrocarbons from the reservoirs. Understanding the challenges and innovations in maximizing production efficiency has been eye-opening. Moreover, working with cross-functional teams taught me the importance of collaboration and communication in a fast-paced industry. I witnessed how different departments coordinate their efforts to ensure seamless operations and adherence to safety standards. As an intern in an oil and gas company, my responsibilities center around data management and analysis. I collect, validate, and process datasets related to exploration and production. Additionally, I assist in creating visualizations and reports, offering data-driven insights to stakeholders. Collaborating with different departments, I contribute to projects involving forecasting production outputs, evaluating exploration opportunities, and aiding decision-making processes. This internship has emphasized the critical role of accurate data in driving operational efficiency and strategic planning within the industry. Additionally, I had the opportunity to contribute to projects related to environmental sustainability and community engagement, which underscored the company's commitment to responsible practices. Overall, my internship in the oil and gas exploration and production company in Pakistan has been a transformative learning experience.
