This is an ideal moment to improve the retail experience and establish stronger customer connections. Mainstream e-commerce has many platforms that offer identical products, resulting in a highly competitive market. Therefore, the competition is fierce, and companies need to innovate and differentiate themselves to stand out. Companies that supply and market their products through multiple retailers and online platforms may end up competing against themselves and their partners. This situation is detrimental for everyone involved. We believe in authenticity and loyalty to our suppliers. We strive to work collaboratively with them to provide personalized and unique services to our customers. Branding, personalisation and authenticity are key to longevity and we must have the perseverance to keep the faith. The wholesale model of doing business would create a vicious circle resulting in the beginning of the end. Many of these shortsighted players are merely seeking short-term gains. Retailers should prioritize their role as curators and facilitators for brands, and ultimately, they are accountable for the success of their own eponymous brands. Retailers should avoid setting themselves apart from competitors solely through discounts and, instead, focus on carrying a carefully selected range of high-quality brands. As I’m heading to Beautyworld Middle East today for my panel session on e-commerce, it’s got me thinking how important and integral platforms like MissPalettable | Clean Beauty in UAE are in the beauty industry. With large marketplaces like Amazon dominating the arena, the loss of personalization, agility and understanding of customer needs have disappeared and a new perception of ecommerce starts making its way. There is a reason why we are curated. It allows us to work closely with our brands, make nimble and agile decisions and the most important of all we know what customers want.
