In the modern corporate world, number of years of experience certainly do not define the people managing capabilities I have seen this trend over the past few years where young people are given the opportunity to lead and manage teams that may have ICs that are senior to them in terms of years of experience This could be a very overwhelming situation and tbh these people do tend to give the young managers a hard time by not collaborating and thinking as if they do not need to listen to their young managers While I have a firm belief that everyone stepping into a people manager role should be properly trained on the basic aspects of people management ( conflict handling, delivering feedback, proper delegation etc) but we all know that companies generally don’t focus on this as much as they should So to all the new managers who are in this situation, I have three mindset shifts for you that can help you enter this new role with confidence Say this out loud to yourself -> I am worthy of this opportunity and I deserve to be on this position -> I am a facilitator, I do not need to have the solutions to all the problems but I will make sure to facilitate my team and connect the problem to the right solution in the most efficient way -> I am ready to embrace this new challenge and I do not fear any resistance Happy managing!! #managerdevelopment #SanaSpeaks

This was spot on when the study was done and remains so today. If you are a leader, or are considering a move to a leadership position, take the time to read this article. Human Resources chiefs excel at identifying detrimental patterns in top managers' performance and when executive coaching is a good problem-solving approach. 👇 This client managed a vast business unit, relying on her superb technical qualifications and commercial experience. She recruited and hired, prioritizing technical skills -as her own- and then compensating for the lack of different skills to be supportive and make herself available to build engagement and boost sales. ▶️ In her coaching session, it became evident that she had made efforts to visit her team once a week or once a day and make herself available with questions such as "𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑑𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑?" or "𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝐼 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑝 𝑦𝑜𝑢?" but that was not effective in building engagement and involvement in this sector—very technical and with a high male employee rate. One solution was to move and share the same office space so she could identify existing potential and share relevant information and processes with them—more of a peer-to-peer leading style, exerting her authority with the right presence. Managing others is a whole second job...and a hard one! People managers need tools and support. For the lucky ones, we had a great manager who taught us HOW to be a great manager. For the rest of us, we can have the best intentions but still struggle because we simply lack the tools to properly manage others. Great managers: 🔹 Take time to know their employee's needs and preferences 🔹 Meet regularly (with purpose) and are accessible to their team 🔹 LISTEN 🔹 Are emotionally intelligent, meaning they don't use a one size fits all approach to people management 🔹 Provide tools and resources for people to do their job 🔹 Invest in the career growth of their people 🔹 Find and provide stretch goals and development opportunities 🔹 Give regular feedback (positive and constructive) 🔹 Take accountability and exhibit vulnerability What would you add to this list?
