The resolution rate of legal problems has increased, after already improving between 2016 and 2020. Around 55% of all problems are completely or partially resolved, compared to 48% and 40% in the previous studies. Although this might in part be the result of recording more problems that are less serious in nature, it is a promising sign about the ability of Ugandans to resolve their legal problems. 🟣𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐝: 𝐇𝐨𝐧. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚! Imagine being a qualified lawyer, but told, "You don’t belong here." On December 6, 2024, that’s exactly what happened to Hon. Martha Karua, a Kenyan Lawyer. Denied her right to lead in a high-stakes Ugandan criminal trial. Her application was met with controversy and rejection. Her professionalism was questioned; her credentials dismissed on technicalities. The outrage? Legal communities in Kenya and Uganda were furious! The Law Society of Kenya threatened to suspend reciprocal admissions with Uganda. Today 6th January, 2025, justice struck back! The Uganda Law Council reversed its decision. Hon. Martha Karua now leads the team representing Dr. Kizza Besigye & Another before the General Court Martial. This is not just her win; it's a win for cross-border justice! 🟣No Money, No Justice: How Can We Change This? 🟣"There can be no equal justice where the kind of trial a man gets depends on the money he has." These powerful words were spoken by Anthony Asiimwe, Vice President of the Uganda Law Society, yesterday as he welcomed newly enrolled advocates to the High Court of Uganda, Kampala. Many people can’t afford a good lawyer, which affects the fairness of their trial. Justice should be for everyone, not just those who can pay for it. Imagine facing a legal problem but not being able to afford help. You feel stuck and scared. That’s not fair. No one should feel helpless in front of the law. Assimwe encouraged the new advocates to consider offering pro bono services; free legal help to those who can’t afford it. Together, we can create a fairer system where everyone, rich or poor, has a chance at justice. What do you think? Should lawyers offer pro bono services to the needy? Share your thoughts in the comments and let’s start the conversation! PS: If I had a dollar for every time justice was delayed, I’d be able to hire my own judge. #Elevateyourprofessionalpresencewith_Amaka Zuria Nagadya #EqualJustice #DisputeResolution #ProBonoPower #AccessToJustice #FairnessMatters

Did you know? Attorney-client privilege is recognized and protected in Rwanda, just like in many other legal systems. 📚 This protection encourages clients to speak openly with their lawyers, knowing their conversations will remain confidential. But here’s what’s interesting: 🔍 Key Aspects of Attorney-Client Privilege in Rwanda: Legal Framework: Governed by the Rwanda Bar Association’s Code of Ethics, confidentiality is a top priority for lawyers. Confidentiality Obligation: Attorneys must keep all client-related information secret—even after the case is closed. Exceptions Exist: Privilege may not apply if the client uses the lawyer’s services to commit a crime or if a court orders disclosure (rare, but it happens). Sanctions for Breach: Violating attorney-client privilege can result in serious consequences, including disciplinary actions or legal penalties. Why does it matter? Because trust is the cornerstone of the legal profession. Without it, the entire system could crumble. If you found this post insightful, feel free to share it ♻️ and let’s keep the conversation going. What other legal principles are important to you? Let’s discuss in the comments! 👇 #Rwanda #Law #AttorneyClientPrivilege #LegalEthics #Confidentiality #entrepreneurship #businesslaw

In this work on "Limitation Period Under Nigeria Law" TEMPLARS, [A high ranking law firm in Nigeria and Ghana] posit that; Limitation laws serve as more than just procedural requirements; they are underpinned by the principles of fairness, efficiency, and legal certainty. The objective is to ensure that all claims are made diligently and timeously while evidence is still available, and memory is intact. Hence, the principle of limitation of action is founded on the public policy that litigation should have an end. It protects defendants, ensures that claimants with a valid cause of action exercise reasonable diligence and timeliness, and prevents a miscarriage of justice arising from litigating stale actions. kindly read through. #Templars #NigerianLaw

Re A (A child) (Recognition of Nigerian Adoption: common law test) [2024] EWHC 2888 Dr Onyója Momoh instructed by Loliya Oruwari from Oliver Fisher Solicitors successfully represented the applicant mother in an application for the recognition of a foreign adoption order (Nigeria, Ogun State). This reported decision is of particular importance given the analysis in relation to the In re Valentines’ common law test number 2. The judgment explores the background and reasoning that led to this element of the test, and examines the correct approach to determining whether the child was legally adopted in accordance with the requirements of the foreign law. #nonHague #relocation #internationalfamilylaw #childrenlaw To read the published judgment click the link below.
