🇦🇲 Armenia Set To Welcome World’s Tallest Statue Of Jesus Christ ➖➖➖ Armenia is set to be home to the world’s tallest statue of Jesus Christ, currently nearing completion on Mount Hatis in Zovuni village, Kotayk Province. Spearheaded by business tycoon Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party and former Member of Parliament, this monumental project is poised to become a landmark in the region. The 33-meter statue, designed by sculptor Armen Samvelyan, will be placed on a 44-meter pedestal. While originally planned for a different location, the statue will now be installed a few meters away from the initial site on Mount Hatis, just 25 kilometers from Yerevan. The remaining sections of the statue are set to be airlifted by helicopter to their final destination. The project officially began on July 9, 2022, with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by then-Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan and Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili. However, the day after the ceremony, the Armenian Government Service for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments (KGSMSN) demanded a halt to the construction, citing the lack of a presented project and a construction permit. Despite these challenges, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded positively to Tsarukyan’s vision, believing that the statue would boost tourism in the area. The project has also faced opposition from the Armenian Church, with the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Supreme Spiritual Council expressing their disapproval, stating that the installation of the Christ statue does not align with the centuries-old iconographic and worship traditions of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Critics of the project have raised concerns about the statue’s placement on Mount Hatis, pointing out that the mountain’s slopes contain around 20 registered historical and cultural monuments from different eras. As the final preparations draw to a close, this awe-inspiring monument is poised to become a significant addition to Armenia’s cultural and religious landscape.
Since the 301 A.D. the vast Christian heritage of the Armenian people has been well-known across the globe. What is the aim of having/ building such a monument in Armenia? I The Ancient Greeks love to say: " Everything in moderation". This ressonable principle has been violated in the given case. I do not want to write a long comment, this is my personal opinion.
Whoever has initiated and is funding this project probably is thinking of leaving a "legacy".... That statue can be destroyed at any time - either by enemy or by a nuthead and that 'legacy' will be gone in minutes.... Jesus himself was against idolatry! idolatry is futile and will leave people empty and unsatisfied. He also says that true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and Truth. Here are some other Bible verses about idolatry: 1 John 5:21: "Keep yourselves from idols" Romans 1:21-23: "Idolatry is the fundamental sin" Psalm 115:4-8: "Idols are worthless and lifeless objects" Isaiah 44:9-20: "Idols delude people into compulsive folly" Romans 1:21-23: "Idolatry is the fundamental sin". Psalm 115:4-8: "Idols are worthless and lifeless objects". You want to leave a legacy for Armenia and for the Armenian people put that money on educating anybody from age 10yo up on AI, MML and Quantum technologies and about true Armenian history and culture (digitize and store safely all Armenian falk songs, dances, tales, mythology, etc. THIS legacy will live for centuries to come, and can make Armenia and Armenians prosperous and free!
First Armenia inceease their citizen wealth instead of Statue. I am Turkish, 2 weeks ago, 3 girl friend of mine visit me from Erivan and L.A . Girls who is from Erivan , told me that there are big social economics caous in Armenia.
Depressing on too many levels
This is a complete waste of money. What purpose would this serve? Mr Tsarukyan could have allocated this vast amount of fund for the purchase of military arms in cooperation with the government which is desperately needed for defense of the Armenian Nation.
This has absolutely nothing to do with Armenian culture and history, and especially understanding of religion. Armenians have the best relationship with religion you can have - we take it seriously, but not too seriously. Jesus statues belong in the Catholic world. We are not Catholics. We also don't shove our religious culture in people's faces. Also, this is financed by one of Armenian's creepiest oligarchs with an ugly reputation. Nothing to be proud about here.
