Helping you energize your next conference program! I am a passionate merchant of Cruelty-Free Circus Arts Production +Vegan Keynote Speaker Rep +B Corp Products Advocate
In advance of the MPI Ottawa Chapter Grand Prix awards gala night coming up this week, I have a message for all award nominees… • Ladies especially, please take the time this weekend to write your acceptance speech AND #rehearse it until it is nearly memorized. 🎤 • The “I’m winning” #energy is SO important because anything else is an insult to your worthiness. (Should I say it again for the people in the back? ;-) • Not to be confused with arrogance, this way of being is necessary for us to step into our power from a place of acknowledging our own #value. • I’ve found (generally) that women are especially good at downplaying #recognition. I’m always sorry to see when people are completely agast when their name is called that the entire speech is spent in total disbelief and, sometimes, outright denial of the honor. • ✅ YES you can & should be gracious. • ✅ YES you can recognize others (please do!) • ✅ AND you can own it at the same time! (Prep and bring up a note card if need be!) • My hope is that more women “own” the moment and take the opportunity to say something that matters in an #intentional 60-90 seconds that is authentic & honouring of YOU and your greatness. • Especially when we are bestowed the highest honour a podium moment, we have the responsibility to leave people better then how we found them. Do we not? ♥️🙏 • I think these important moments take foresight, forthought, and deep self respect to utter words that can be a light for others. • When we step into our power, by default, we give permission for others to step into theirs. Yes or yes? 🙌🏻😉 • Sending love, hugs, and BEST of luck to all my amazing colleagues who find themselves on the nominee list. You are all winners to me! 🎉 • #EventProfs #EventProfessionals #MPITO #MPIOttawa #AwardsGala #PersonalGrowthJourney

I recently had the fun task of putting these fabulous people into teams Judging teams, that is It's not quite award season, but behind the scenes, it never stops With the help of our judging committee Mayokun - Mac Alonge, Sope Agbelusi, Demi S. and the wider BTA team we have: - recruited and onboarded new judges - look out for announcements 🎉 - refined the entry forms to make sure all of the nominees shine ✨ - rebuilt the judging system and tested it to destruction 🤯 Awards aren't everyone's cup of tea, but... At the BTAs, we do our utmost to make sure the process is fair and efficient - We offer feedback to everyone who enters who doesn't get shortlisted - All finalists are interviewed before the winners are chosen - The judging process is rigorous, but it's also fun BTAs recognise people who just get their heads down and do a good job - People who often don't like to blow their own trumpet 🎺 - People who may not even be on Linkedin 😳 - People who shun the spotlight 🙈 Nominations are open - employees, solopreneurs, small and large businesses Head to Black Talent Awards and nominate - give someone their flowers 💐 #Inclusion #BlackTalentAwards

Can you do a humblebrag or celebrate success the right way? I think you can and, more importantly, would actively encourage you to do so. Why? You've worked hard for this. Earned your right to be recognised. Won an award, got a nomination, topped the table. Then someone tells you you didn't celebrate it the right way? No. No, no, no, no, no! No! They have no idea what you did to get that result. The work you've put in. An inaugural directories nomination? Go for it. An award win? Literally tell me about it and I will be at the front of the queue to like that post. Every time. I have had a glimpse of what it takes to achieve that recognition as I have worked alongside lawyers for 25 years. Please do not allow others to take it away from you. Beyond your own hard work, representation matters. If you're cowed into not sharing/ celebrating your successes, told that it's humblebragging or that posting is boasting, then ask yourself this: who does that serve? Who benefits from you not posting about that success? How should you share a success? By telling us how the recognition made you feel. If it's heartfelt and genuine, and timely, it will *always* resonate with your audience. Always. Let's take the example below (which isn't my success but rather the success of one of the women I love most in the world: young Meg). The sheer joy on her face in this photo made me cry this morning when I got it through. I've seen the pain, heard about the early starts and witnessed the upsets that came before it. I know that she was offered a chance to appear at the British rowing champs at short notice and grapsed it with all her might and claimed gold this weekend in the mixed fours. I know - an actual Marshall actually winning something. I'm always proud to be her dad, but I'm unbelievably proud today - mainly because of that smile. Not all first years at university are easy. But maybe this one got just a little bit easier? Love you, Meg. Celebrate your successes, people. And I will always help you to do so too. #SimonSays #DadLife #Lawyers #LawFirms #LegalProfession

At this weekend's Oscar Awards 🏆 , the live number that brought down the house was "I'm Just Ken" the song in which Ryan Gosling bemoans being "...always number two" in a fictional Barbie 🌏 world. The non-fiction reality, -- as shown in a recent report from The World Bank -- is quite the opposite. "When legal differences involving violence and childcare are taken into account, women enjoy fewer than two-thirds the rights of men. No country provides equal opportunity for women—not even the wealthiest economies." For the first time, The World Bank's report on "Women, Business, and the Law" assessed the gap between legal reforms and actual outcomes for women in 190 economies. What the analysis revealed was a "shocking implementation gap". 😲 "Although laws on the books imply that women enjoy roughly two-thirds the rights of men, countries on average have established less than 40% of the systems needed for full implementation." The potential impact of remedying these disparities would benefit the entire economy. "Women have the power to turbocharge the sputtering global economy," said Indermit Gill, Chief Economist and SVP for Development Economics at The World Bank. "Yet, all over the world, discriminatory laws and practices prevent women from working or starting businesses on an equal footing with men. Closing this gap could raise global gross domestic product by more than 20% – essentially doubling the global growth rate over the next decade." 📈 As the report's lead author Tea Trumbic shared, "“Today, barely half of women participate in the global workforce, compared with nearly three out of every four men. This is not just unfair—it’s wasteful. Increasing women's economic participation is the key to amplifying their voices and shaping decisions that affect them directly. Countries simply cannot afford to sideline half of their population.” Read more from the latest "Women, Business, and the Law" report here: https://lnkd.in/g8evTt9j https://lnkd.in/gUCzCZEQ

Leadership | Marketing | Brand | Growth | Creative | Energy Sparking joy through connecting people, brands and thoughts
Well that will be us up there on the short list for best integrated campaign 👊 from the world renowned and prestigious The Drum Awards As part of our marketing transformation, 12 months ago we set ourselves an ambition to get some marketing swagger (aka a hefty gold embellishment for our newly installed and ambitiously big trophy cabinet). Not for the party (don’t get me wrong we like a party) but as recognition from industry gurus, creative pundits, marketing maestros that our work is as good as our customers (and our stats) say. Team… whether we win or not on the night it doesn’t matter. What matters is we are on our way and this recognition is the fuel we need for our onward journey. But for now “Cheers to us all’ 👏 #HiveHeros #WeveGotYourBack #BrilliantWork #MarketingSwagger
