We’ve invested close to $100,000 in creating opportunities for Black and Brown Journalists. Through the Center for Broadcast Journalism I have been able to partner with people like Marianne Combs, Bianca Rhodes and Kimberly Nightingale to truly transform the local media landscape. Yes, my work changes the narrative but I am only one person. Media reform requires a transformation inside local newsrooms that reflects the same diversity in our neighborhoods. That’s why we started investing in opportunities for Black and Brown reporters. Whether it’s hiring them for their first reporting job so they can gain experience or whether it’s giving them hands on training that they don’t get in a traditional college setting.
