Ariela Safira sat down with Zac C. on The Zac Clark Show to talk about all things mental health. They cover the importance of educational reform in mental health awareness, why our healthcare system is at its worst when people need it the most, how to foster supportive environments both in the workplace and personally, and how to move beyond the stigmatization and criminalization often associated with mental health and substance use issues. In "Cancel the Filter," I openly discuss the temptation of chasing numbers and monetization. 💰 But I share stories that reveal the deeper purpose behind my choices. Yes, we all need to make a living and support our families. However, for endeavors like the podcast, it's vital to remember our "why." 🤔 Our true motivation lies in destigmatizing mental health and fostering vulnerability within underrepresented communities. 🌈 By listening to these stories, we hope to make reaching out for help less intimidating. 🤗 Repost this if you want to learn more about destigmatizing mental health and the importance of vulnerability. This week’s Tradeoffs episode is more than a year in the making, and I’m so excited to finally get to share it with you. Last summer, I started talking with folks in cities that were doing something radical: sending unarmed mental health workers to respond to certain 911 calls. More than half of the country’s 50 largest cities now have what are often called alternative crisis response programs — many launched in just the last few years. I’d heard about these programs as I reported on our country’s mental health crisis, and I wanted to see for myself how they were working and if anywhere had a model that could help other cities design programs to improve care for people in a mental health crisis. Today, we bring you the first episode of The Fifth Branch, a special podcast series from Tradeoffs and The Marshall Project. The series zooms in on Durham, North Carolina’s HEART program, one of the most respected alternative crisis response programs in the country. Over the next three weeks, the series will lay out what I learned through months of reporting on the ground in Durham talking with city leaders, frontline responders, police officers, business owners and residents who have had HEART respond to their crisis. This week: How do you get skeptical cops on board with sending unarmed mental health workers to 911 calls? I hope you take the time to listen to this episode or read the transcript, and keep your ears out for the next episode on July 25 and the final episode on August 1. https://lnkd.in/e4VexDJS

Youth & Gun Violence Prevention & Community Violence Intervention Expert | Over 30 Years of Experience
Many young people involved in violence are crying out for help in their own way. In the new episode of The InCredible Messenger Podcast we talk with mental health professional Riley Cochran, MA, LPC, LAC of Resolute Youth Services to discuss the intersection of mental health and firearm violence prevention. You'll definitely want to check out the part of the conversation where we talk about the blessing and curse and the general role social media plays in mental health. "Social media, while it's a tool for connection, can often be a double-edged sword, impacting young people's mental health. Riley shares his personal journey and the importance of building authentic relationships with young people and literally bringing therapy to where they are. "I think young people are open, maybe more open than we give them credit for. But there's the caveat. That relationship has to be established first." He emphasizes the need for community support, the importance of doing our own work to support others to effectively provide hope to young individuals. "I think as a community, it's doing our own work. But I think even more, another piece is providing people hope." Listen or watch the episode on your favorite platform!
