I think he has a good point. At the moment there has been quite a lot of discussions about age discrimination and also about leadership. Special focus has been on the question, what kind of leadership skills are valued. So hopefully it is about the time to start recognizing and rewarding the right people as well? And what kind of people are these right persons? It varies, of course. But I think they have something in common. People with whom it’s nice to work with as they listen, encourage, support and keep their promises. People with knowledge and whom don’t hesitate to share their wisdom with colleagues. People who have courage to speak up and say aloud also those unpopular observations and opinions if things are not progressing or they are going to the wrong direction. Everybody knows that knowledge is usually connected to power, and therefore many people keep as much as possible by themselves. I think the power of true gurus and inspiring people doesn’t depend on how much they can keep by themselves but how much they share. Their wisdom doesn’t disappear from sharing. World is changing all the time at exhausting speed and also knowledge is evolving and increasing. I think only talented and curious people can really keep up. What do you think? What if organizations would start recognizing this kind of people? And next time promotion is given, it’s not automatically your pal, with whom you play tennis with or a person with ”right” gender, but a person recognized valuable as an individual and as a teamplayer. What do you think?

It's a very interesting read but again there is so much more which needs to be considered. A few thoughts. 1. If that person shows you true qualities of a manager then yes they should be considered but maybe that person may not want to go down that route in their career. 2. Is it time for something new? could the reason you need a manger is to explore moving the department to a different level ? and sometimes you want to employ someone for this experience only. 3. Even though the departments looks likes it's ticking over is it actually working correctly? are certain things that are being dropped which is being allowed because the company know there isn't a manager in place. I think in all cases it's all about both employee and employer being honest of what is required and what both side want and need. Having said all this, a manager should be able to step out of the business and their team should be able to manage without them because a manager is not responsible for doing the day to day, they should be there to empower their team, ensure everything is cross trained and to provide continued support and guidance to the team. #successionplanning #empower #managers #careers
A team that thrives without a manager for six months is a testament to their autonomy and self-sufficiency. They've navigated challenges, collaborated effectively, and delivered results – all without a central figure calling the shots. This begs the question: why fill a leadership vacuum when you have a wellspring of talent within? Instead of searching outwards, look inwards. Identify the individuals who stepped up, rallied the team, and demonstrated natural leadership qualities. This six-month stint has revealed your internal champions, ripe for promotion and development. Empowering them rewards their contributions and fosters a culture of ownership and trust.

How can you attract and retain top talent? 1️⃣ - Ask yourself if you have bait top talent will be attracted too. 2️⃣ - Ask yourself if your internal company culture matches the external employer brand being marketed. Yes!!! Many companies doesn't see this until it's a little too late. Just because you know them doesn't mean they can do the job! Promoting someone could impact the team morale or even the team culture. Bad promotion could lead to bad tragedy. #companies #promotion #impact #morale #culture #team

I can't tell you how many times I have seen this happen over and over again. "Joe got promoted because he has been here the longest. John got promoted because no one else knows the product better," and the stories go on and on. I left my last job for just this reason. I saw managers get promoted with no people or management experience. This approach only brings out their threatening, yelling and a toxic environment as these are the only skills they reach out to in times of need. Failing to recognize your lack in management skills doesn't make you a leader. Failing to ask for management training prior to taking the job ill prepares you for success. There is no substitute for this education or a coach with experience to help you navigate the playing field.

It's crucial for companies to prioritize meritocracy and ensure that promotions are based on skills, performance, and potential rather than favoritism or politics. Promoting the wrong people can have detrimental effects on fellow employees and the overall team dynamics. It can lead to a loss of morale, decreased productivity, and a sense of unfairness among team members who are more qualified or deserving of promotion. This can result in increased turnover, decreased trust in leadership, and ultimately hinder the organization's success.
