Striving for Greater Impact in Humanitarian Work As a committed humanitarian professional with experience in roles like Community Worker and Protection Assistant, I have always been driven by the desire to serve vulnerable populations and create lasting change. Over the years, I’ve honed my skills in protection, psychosocial support, and community engagement, working alongside diverse teams to bring hope and dignity to those in need. Looking ahead, my professional goal is to advance into roles that allow me to contribute on a broader scale, such as a Protection Assistant. I am eager to continue learning, collaborating with stakeholders, and applying innovative approaches to improve lives in the communities I serve. I believe growth comes from both experience and continuous learning. 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝟏𝟒, I knew I wanted to work in global development, public policy, global affairs, humanitarian work, or international development–working for an international NGO or government body… basically, a career in a bunch of different areas 🌍✨ But I didn’t know where to start. Sound familiar? Then, something happened: Nadine Ferris France, PhD (she/her) came to my school and shared her career story. For the first time, I met someone accessible—someone I could ask endless questions to. She told me to 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫. At 14, I couldn’t commit to a full-time job, but volunteering gave me a way to channel my passion. 🌍 Pursuing Global Impact: Seeking Opportunities with UNICEF, WHO, UNDP, or Similar Organizations For a while now, I’ve been working to align my career with my passion for international development and humanitarian work. With a Master’s in Social Work (Clinical Concentration) and hands-on experience in crisis intervention, behavioral therapy, and case management, and business programs development and skill, I believe my background could contribute meaningfully to organizations like UNICEF, WHO, or UNDP. However, finding the right pathway and people to these roles has been a real challenge. Through my career I have been able to worked with a variety of backgrounds and needs throughout the United States, helping vulnerable populations and defusing crisis situations while leading team members. I have been able to accomplish this through my experience as an outpatient therapist utilizing different therapeutic modalities, working with adolescents in psychiatric care inpatient unit in Vermont, aiding in stabilization with the hospital and police in Oregon, and one of the most meaningful experiences I have had was on McGuire Air Force Base, where I supported Afghan refugees arriving in the U.S. after fleeing the Taliban. I am currently on Nantucket Island as part of the mental health mobile crisis team, a job I truly love my due to the work I get the privilege of doing, the flexibility, and the amazing team. In addition to my skills as a Master level mental health therapist, I have a business degree in addition to my two social work degrees. My business expertise allows me to navigate budgetary requirements, administrative duties, and perform tasks required for this position. These experiences taught me how to collaborate across sectors, build trust with clients, and manage complex cases. Now, I’m eager to apply what I’ve learned to global projects that foster health, equity, and development. If anyone has advice, insights on entry points, or knows someone I could connect with in UNICEF, WHO, UNDP, or similar organizations, I’d be incredibly grateful.
