Whoa, I think this is my first post on LinkedIn…*cracks knuckles
TLDR: Unfortunately, I was one of many that had been impacted by the layoffs at Lightspeed last week. I’m openly looking for work! 😁
RTFA (I googled “opposite of TLDR” to find this acronym literally today):
So this journey started in the summer of 2018. I was looking for something fresh and with the help of a recruiter we came across a little company called Vend. I was immediately captivated during my interview by the fact that everyone was in very casual clothing and there was music playing. Very different than anything I've ever seen in an office. Also, I wasn’t completely shunned after my interviewers shook my very sweaty hands, IYKYK. I was eager to get started in the sales roll and went in with an open mind.
One of the first emails I received while working was actually someone who was leaving Vend 😛. Something that stood out in their ‘goodbye’ email was that they said, “Once a Vender Always a Vender”. I’ll be completely honest, at first, I thought that was cringy. “It's just a job?”, I thought.
After a few months I was happily proven wrong. This was such a cool place! More than just a job. The work was fulfilling & rewarding, the people we’re absolutely 👨🍳💋 and we celebrated the hell out of our wins…and there were a LOT! On top of all that there was serious culture. You had to be there.
Fast forward a few years to when Lightspeed acquired Vend. I saw this as an opportunity. More work to be done, more people to meet, more celebrations! I was happy that I went with my gut and stayed around.
A couple years later I took an opportunity that was presented to me to move into Partnership Enablement within Lightspeed. This broadened my horizons immensely. There were so many parts of the business I had never seen or understood. I took on a challenge and can confidently say that I thrived in it.
Sadly, the journey had to come to an end last week. I know that all the talented individuals who were affected will land on their feet. I never had intentions to leave but sometimes events like this are exactly the push we need to really challenge ourselves.
I need to give credit to all the leaders I have worked with over the years. Kevin Kim, Ryan Hiscox, Nathan Stone, Geordie Kingsbury (no autocorrect this time :P), Rida R. and lastly Katia Martens. I can consider myself a very lucky man being able to work with these individuals. In my eyes, they are the mold of what an exemplary leader should be. Thank you!
To all the leaders I've worked with indirectly, Thank you!
To every team member that has tolerated my insane emoji game, the biggest THANK YOU! 💚
The next little while will really teach me who I am and what I’m capable of. It's kind of exciting, scary and emotional all around.
I look forward to seeing what's out there and to seeing what I can do.
ok bye.
