I’m two sunrise cold dips into my fundraiser and here are my three big take aways so far, LinkedIn style: 1️⃣ Supporters react well to a direct ask (i.e. I’m asking for $5 pledges daily) and fundraising goals/milestones (i.e. I do a different kind of dip/post depending on daily pledge totals)🥉🥈🏅👑 2️⃣ Psychologists (??) say the first thing you do when you wake up is the dopamine you chase all day. So far, this kind of morning makes the rest of the day a lot interesting 🌅 3️⃣ No one’s coming to save us lol. I’ve spent these drives to the lake thinking about why there even needs to be a community fridge. Why can’t we, as a society, prioritize everyone being housed and fed? It’s not complicated and I won’t let anyone try to convince me it is. But yeah, not to be dramatic but I guess we have to save ourselves and each other 🫡 and that said: The Dartmouth Community Fridge is aiming to raise $10,000 in 10 days. #Congratulations to the 361 organizations who announced yesterday that they had been awarded a total of $640 million by Mackenzie Scott! Now the hard work begins of managing these new funds! They most likely have already received these funds, and there is sure to be a long line of people waiting to speak with the CEO about "a really good idea" on how to invest and deploy these funds... After speaking with multiple leaders who have also received these #transformationalgifts from Mackenzie Scott, I can offer 5 important lessons that will guide organizations through this windfall gift. ✅ Engage a Trusted Advisor for the CEO ✅ Consider How to Share the News ✅ Establish How You Will Invest In Priorities ✅ Use a Working Group to Run the Process ✅ Manage Ongoing Communication Read more in the first comment below. This latest round of gifts from #YieldGiving, the organization she established to manage her philanthropy. And it is different in a very significant way from the previous $16 billion (yes, with a B) that she has donated. In contrast with earlier rounds, this time these organizations APPLIED for the gifts. In fact, more than 6,000 organizations applied for a $1 million gift. And these 361 organizations were selected as recipients. So they probably already have a good idea on how they want to use the funds. And they will still be subject to a lot of pitches from a wide range of stakeholders. #mackenziescott

Giving Tuesday - what are your plans and what is it all about?! . My favorite definition of the Tuesday after Thanksgiving stylized as #GivingTuesday is, " a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world." Pretty powerful stuff right? And that all happens on just ONE day! . In 2022 a total of $3.1 billion across the US was donated to a variety of non-profit organizations and missions! Beyond the dollar amount, that is a ton of impact happening and so many different communities coming together to support organizations they are passionate about and believe in. . This day is also more than just donating monetarily.. it's also about spreading the word of organizations that are doing so much good in the community. It's about telling friends and family about why you are passionate about a local non-profit and why you support the mission either through time, talent or treasure. . So what are your plans for Giving Tuesday? Does your company currently engage with this day? Do you and your family or friends do something special to gear up to help make an impact on this day? Would love to hear from the community on what everyone plans to do for this day! . Our team at Rawhide is gearing up to participate with a special campaign on this day to raise funds and spread the word for our job training program that focuses on career development, automotive, welding and culinary. However, this program goes deeper than that. It is a chance for youth with a variety of different backgrounds to explore a path they thought may have never been possible, either because of what they have been told in the past or obstacles that have made them feel like they can't achieve a happy and fulfilled path in life. This is one of my favorite programs at our organization and I cannot wait to see the community come together to learn more and help us continue this work! One of the hardest places for me to travel is on a tunnel. The lack of visibility and dim lights make it difficult to maneuver through. I am constantly hoping I don’t get too close to those driving nearby. Patience and focus are more key in these tunnels than ever. To succeed, I would mostly focus on the next brighter light, and mostly, this led to the end of the tunnel. Non-profit fundraising requires patience, strategy, and focus. It’s about staying consistent and reviewing your fundraising strategy to ensure that you remain consistent. Every win drives us to the successive win; every loss drives us to the next win. What remains consistent is that we don’t give up because, in the end, it is a community that is about to be transformed by our work. What strategies help you to stay on course? Easter Sunday is just around the corner, and here's how you can lock in those MEGA EVENTS! Now is the perfect time to prepare for the upcoming busy summer months. While landing these big events may seem daunting, focusing on four key steps will soon have your phone ringing with inquiries from organizations in your area. The 4 steps are S.A.L.E. We utilized the Chamber of Commerce and LinkedIn to identify schools in our area. We then reached out to them with a letter and a printed brochure. This strategy resulted in numerous calls from schools eager to work with us. Mention a donation in the letter to prompt them to contact you. Let them know that you will only be contributing a portion of the event. The donation can be monetary, or you can even donate games that would otherwise be sitting in your warehouse.
