📣 Aufruf zur Teilnahme an der Umfrage “Shaping Open Source Collaboration in Europe” 🇪🇺 Bis zum 13.09. 🗓 können sich Open-Source-Experten, CIOs, Verantwortliche für die digitale Transformation, Softwareentwickler, Sicherheitsexperten, Beschaffungsbeauftragte und Rechtsberater aus der öffentlichen Verwaltung an der Umfrage zu Erfahrungen über und an Anforderungen an den Einsatz von #OpenSource in öffentlichen Verwaltungen in #Europa beteiligen. Durch die Teilnahme an der Umfrage und an dem später stattfindenden Workshop erhalten Teilnehmer*innen Einblicke in Freie Software, ein tieferes Verständnis für die aktuellen Bedürfnisse und Herausforderungen bei deren Nutzung und können direkten Einfluss auf die politische Gestaltung nehmen. Langfristiges Ziel ist die Gründung einer paneuropäischen Nutzergruppe zur Zusammenarbeit und gemeinsamen Bewältigung der Herausforderungen beim Einsatz Freier Software. Today, OpenForum Europe is thrilled to join the Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA) as its newest member. The DPGA is a multi-stakeholder initiative with a mission to accelerate the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in low- and middle-income countries by facilitating the discovery, development, use of and investment in digital public goods. Digital public goods means Open Source software, open data, open AI models, open standards and open content that adhere to privacy and other applicable laws and best practices. They follow the principle of “do no harm” by design and are fundamental to attaining the SDGs. Said Astor Nummelin Carlberg, executive director of OFE: “As an organization, we believe that our mission has made us a natural ally of the digital public goods movement, both in Europe and beyond. We are excited to join the DPGA and bring a distinctly European perspective to the alliance, as well as join the global community of organizations championing the virtues of sustainable and reusable digital public goods. Yesterday, in collaboration with the Internet Society, the Brussels School of Governance presented their preliminary report summing up the ‘’digitally aware elections” conversation series that has been taking place over the past few months. 🇪🇺 With David Frautschy Heredia hosting and introducing the event, Jamal Shahin revealed the key findings of the report, which launched a discussion between representatives of the European political groups that could be present, alongside some of the members of the internet’s ’technical community’ and a number of students that have also participated in previous events. 12 key take aways, three from each political group, were mentioned. A non-exhaustive list ranged from Renew group’s support for a Commissioner for Enforcement in digital matters, the S&D group’s focus on digital fairness and digital public infrastructure, the Green/EFA group’s focus on ethical and environmental consequences of digital technologies, and the EPP group’s focus on enhancing security and predictability for consumers and businesses alike. The preliminary report contained chapters written by students following the digitalisation specialisation of the MSc in European Integration at the BSoG, and was compiled by David Frautschy, Clément Perarnaud, and Jamal Shahin. Thank you to those who contributed to this ongoing discussion, especially Elena Plexida, Gerard Rinse Oosterwijk, Romain Bosc, and Fausto Pinto de Matos. And a big thank you to our previous speakers: Inês de Matos Pinto (Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament), Arnika Zinke (The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament), Thierry Masson (Renew Europe), Polina Malaja (CENTR), and Frederic Taes (Internet Society (ISOC) Belgium)! Open source offers us the ability to safeguard our digital infrastructure - rather crucial in the current geopolitical situation. Guaranteeing #DigitalSovereignty is not a luxury; it is a core part of state security. In #Germany, the Zentrum Digitale Souveränität (ZenDiS) is at the forefront of this transformation. As highlighted in a recent Golem article, ZenDiS work is making waves around the world - collaboration with #France and interest from neighbors like #Austria and the #Netherlands, countries like #Taiwan and #Japan, and even organizations like the #UN. This initiative represents a leap forward in Germany’s commitment to digital sovereignty, enabling public administrations to build regional, transparent, scalable solutions tailored to specific needs. At SUSE, we have always believed in the power of open source to drive innovation and economic growth.
