We're taking you back to the earlier days of 'surfing the web' and one sound you can't forget if you had dial-up access... (*turn on your volume to play*). But why did dial-up make so much noise? 💻 Dial-up modems had to connect your computer and your internet service provider (ISP) via a phone line. Sound was the only communication method available for modems at the time. Therefore, the distinctive sounds a modem made were the communication attempts between the two devices! If you remember the good old days of dial-up Internet, give this post a like!

Head of Consulting & Technology @Auren Portugal | Digital Transformation Researcher and Professor | Startup Advisor | PhD
Digital transformation is just beginning. But like in the surf, we are within a swell of "technology waves" that seem smooth at the horizon but are fast and unstoppable. Where you watch them, they are already beside you! Do you have a longboard to ride this wave? #DigitalTransformation #DigitalLeaders

🌊 Today, I had the pleasure of attending an insightful breakfast hosted by Auren International and INOVA delving deep into the ever-evolving landscape of technology. One standout moment was when Rui Ribeiro showcased a slide illustrating the exponential growth in user adoption, with the iPhone's impact shifting the timeline from years to mere months, and now, astonishingly, to days. Rui likened technology to the awe-inspiring waves of Nazaré—a metaphor that resonates deeply with me as a surfer. Just like those colossal waves, the march of technology is unstoppable. The key? Embrace it like a seasoned surfer, equipped with the right tools and mindset to ride the wave rather than be overwhelmed by it. But let's be real—Nazaré waves aren't your average swell. They demand years of training, a deep understanding of the ocean, and above all, the support of a skilled team to navigate successfully. As someone who's spent two decades riding waves, I can attest: Nazaré is a league of its own, just like the world of technology we're immersed in. It's a reminder of the mind-blowing world we live in—a world where innovation knows no bounds. 🏄♀️ #Technology #Innovation #Surfing #RideTheWave

‘If you need to think about it or need additional instructions, it isn’t working.’ Applied’s founder Tim Fendley talks about our approach to navigation systems as part of a recent Bloomberg CityLab article written by Laura Laker. The article ‘When Will Google Fix Maps for Cyclists?’ includes Applied’s Legible London project as an example of how maps can be placed strategically to promote walking and cycling for short trips. By the standardisation and strategic placement of signage, both in the analogue and in the digital world, navigation systems provide something very important: predictability. And it is this predictability which means that people will use it. Read the full article ‘When Will Google Fix Maps for Cyclists?’ via the link below: https://lnkd.in/e9p4E7aU
