We are so proud to share we’ve been selected as a grant recipient of the Kindness in Community Fund, which was created by Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation and made global with support from Cotton On Foundation to address the evolving mental health and wellbeing needs of young people. This generosity will help us to deliver essential education to schools in the Perth Metro through our Hero High workshops that aim to empower young people to positively manage their own mental health. We’re so thankful for this fund that will support us on our mission to prevent suicide in Australia 💜 @btwfoundation, @cottonon, @cottononfoundation

It's #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek and the topic for 2024 is #MyVoiceMatters We will share some top tips from Marijana, our Familly Support Lead, about how to empower children to accept their own feelings, follow their instincts and interests, use their voices to share ideas and inspire others. Empowering children in this way can have a positive impact on their health and wellbeing. Place2Be, one of the UK’s leading children’s mental health charities, states that children and young people who feel that their voices are heard have higher levels of self-esteem. Great to join Lisa Jakimciw for the NPC (New Philanthropy Capital) launch of their new report on the youth mental health crisis and how the surge in demand is affecting charities. A packed out room shows just how much this issue is firing people up. Lots of synergy here with the work of The Children's Society and their early intervention mental health hubs - giving children and young people walk-in access to mental health support and other holistic care - before they reach the point of crisis. Always a fan of a good visual image, I loved Ndidi Okezie describing teachers - now expected to perform multiple essential functions - as Swiss Army penknives. The pressure on schools to cope with this epidemic is insupportable and the decimation of youth services have deprived too many vulnerable children of the trusted adult they need outside of school and family. Some interesting takeaways on the need to understand more about how other countries, who have experienced similar perma crises, are coping with this issue. Why are British children among the unhappiest in Europe? Looking forward to more conversations on our major appeal #npcthinks #mentalhealth #childmentalhealth #philanthropy

If it is on your heart to donate to a worthy cause please consider suicide prevention. I am participating in the Construction Hike for Hope in Atlanta on May 5th. The AFSP is working to engage the construction industry on the importance of mental health. Per the CDC's data on suicide risk within occupational groups, the construction and extraction industries were found to have the highest rate of suicide in the United States. Stress leads to burnout, burnout can lead to depression and depression can lead to suicide. Just trying to do what I can to raise awareness and hopefully stop the cycle.

Over the weekend, I took part in the 54-mile British Heart Foundation London to Brighton bike ride to raise money for the fantastic mental health charity Mind. While the journey itself was certainly a physical challenge, riding across the finish line was a stark reminder that while I could sit and take the weight off my legs, those struggling with their mental health don’t have such privileges. They face carrying their mental load around with them 24/7. What stands out most to me is not just the amount of money raised through such events, but the impact these funds can have. For me, it’s about taking meaningful action to create environments where people, particularly young people and men, feel comfortable discussing their mental health. We need spaces that resonate with the younger generation, aligning with their ways of interaction and societal norms. I’ve watched in admiration as spaces like the The Man Cave UK in Milton Keynes and Selfspace in London continue to grow, providing welcoming and supportive environments for productive conversations about mental health. We simply need more of these modern solutions that go beyond traditional (and quite frankly box-ticking) approaches. It's important to move past empty social media gestures that simply tell men to "talk more." Instead, we should focus on creating real, accessible spaces where everybody can feel genuinely safe to open up. Awareness is key, action is vital. Do you agree? What do you think is needed to genuinely encourage people to 'talk more/open up/[insert generic viral virtue signal here]'? #mentalhealth #mind #nhs

Think back to when you were a child. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to yourself related to your mental health? In this moment, by identifying a way to improve your childhood mental health, you’ve got something in common with MQ. That same motivation — making life better for children — is what drives MQ to fund rigorous mental health research at the world’s leading institutions. But we can’t get there without your help, and that’s why we’re reaching out today — the first day of #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek. Would you make a gift today for Children’s Mental Health Week? https://lnkd.in/e7keD3Sp #WithoutResearchItsJustGuesswork #MentalHealthResearch #Charity #MentalHealth #Volunteer #Donate
