September is Diaper Need Awareness Month, and we’re raising awareness about this often-overlooked issue. 1 in 2 U.S. families experience diaper need. Without enough diapers, babies are left in soiled ones for too long, leading to health risks. Lack of diapers can also prevent parents from attending work, school, or job training, as many childcare providers require families to supply their own diapers. Many families, especially those facing medical challenges, struggle to afford enough diapers. Diapers are essential for a child’s health and well-being, yet for many families balancing tight budgets, they are an overwhelming expense. Babies can use up to 10 diapers a day, leaving parents struggling with impossible choices. Today, your support can ease this burden. In California and the United States, #FFNcare is the most common nonparental #ChildCare arrangement for young children, including #infants and #toddlers–nearly two out of every five children, ages 3 and under, are entrusted to the care of an FFN provider. 🚼 Yet FFN providers receive low or no compensation for their work. #ChildCareSubsidies are a critical way for FFNs to increase their income, but currently, many face barriers to accessing this system. Early Edge California, Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, San Jose Public Library, and Vision y Compromiso have released a NEW policy brief exploring the barriers to subsidies and provides recommendations on how to better support FFN caregivers in obtaining them. Hawaiʻi just became the 33rd state to allow campaign donations to be used for childcare🙌🏿🙌🏽🙌🏻 With this, two-thirds of U.S. states have now made a significant step forward in empowering more parents of minors to run for office✨ A lack of affordable and accessible childcare is a barrier that holds millions of parents back professionally, with mamas bearing the brunt. Authorizing the use of campaign donations for childcare enables more moms to run for office. That’s why we’re working on getting Campaign Funds for Childcare (CFCC) authorized in every state to break down the barriers that prevent mamas from running for and sustainably serving in elected office. Right now, parents and families can’t keep up with #childcare costs, and child care providers don’t earn enough to make ends meet. Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) caregivers, when paid, have an average annual earning of $7,420. This needs to change. Our newest policy brief, Increasing Access to Family, Friend, And Neighbor Caregiver Wages through California’s Child Care Subsidy System, written in partnership with Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, San Jose Public Library, and Visión y Compromiso, highlights the important role of FFN caregivers and the challenges they face when it comes to compensation. Organ Supply and Demand Are Out of Balance: Number of patients on the waiting list vs. patients who have received transplants in 2021, by organ. One important way to address this imbalance is to increase living donors by educating the public about the safety of the procedure and reducing barriers to undergoing living donation. 📢 Big things are coming from BlueOval City! Ford Motor Company and the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South are teaming up to open a YMCA Early Learning Center in 2026, providing childcare for up to 175 children and supporting local families. The center will offer: ✅ Affordable childcare for employees and the community ✅ Programs for kids aged 6 weeks to 5 years, plus school-age care ✅ $7M in public & private funding, including support from the Tennessee Department of Human Services, Ford, and BlueOval SK This state-of-the-art facility, made possible by a generous 5-acre land donation, will help break down barriers to employment and strengthen the West Tennessee community.
