World’s Oceans Day is here and a lot of people are thinking of ways to acknowledge and celebrate it. For me though, this day brings a chance to put light on one persistent threat our oceans are facing: CO2 emissions. For millions of years, the ocean maintained a delicate balance with the atmosphere. Now, in just 150 years, human activity has disrupted this balance. We've seen a 30% increase in ocean acidity, a rate unseen in millions of years. This acidification threatens marine life, impacting everything from coral reefs to shellfish. At Asia Shipping, we understand the critical role we play in global trade. We're proud to be ranked 31st in Transport Topics' Top 50 Ocean Freight Forwarders, with 4,77,000 TEUs carried. But this achievement comes with responsibility. That's why we're taking action. The AS Group is a signatory to the Santa Catarina SDG National Movement and holds the "Redução de CO2 - 150KG" certification. Initiatives like these push us towards reducing our carbon footprint and minimizing our impact on the ocean. The question is: are we doing enough? I feel privileged to be living in a place where the beauty of blue skies is a part of everyday life. It’s something I never gave much thought to—until I traveled to places where such a simple yet profound sight is a rarity. During my travels, I met people who have lived on this planet for 30 to 40 years, never left their hometowns, and didn’t even know that blue skies existed. It was eye-opening to realize that what I take for granted is a distant dream for so many, a reminder of the stark inequalities in environmental conditions across the globe. Today, on the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, we are reminded of the importance of clean air for our health, our environment, and our future generations. Clean air is a basic human right, yet millions around the world are denied this fundamental need. As we mark this day, let’s renew our commitment to ensuring that everyone, no matter where they live, can one day look up and experience the vast, clear blue skies that inspire hope and well-being. This alarming trend not only destroys the natural habitats of countless species but also contributes to climate change, soil erosion, and the disruption of vital water cycles. It's time we take action to protect and restore our precious forests and oceans and finally Earth before it's too late.
