Munashe Manyevere, a 4th-year Applied Physics student at the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, will be presenting his poster on this research at the 32nd IAU General Assembly in Cape Town, from the 6th to the 15th of August 2024. The title of his poster is Testing the Validity and Applicability of the Massive Photon Theory on the Problem of the Anomalous Flat Rotation Curves of Spiral Galaxies and you can find the abstract below. His poster session will be part of Poster Session FM9-3, “Measures of luminous and dark matter in galaxies across time”, scheduled for Thursday, 15 August 2024, between 10:00 and 10:30am. We are very excited to learn more about Munashe’s work and invite you to join and engage with us at the 32nd IAU General Assembly to learn more about Munashe’s research and the potential implications of the Massive Photon Theory on our understanding of dark matter.

Planet with an iron heart in an extrasolar system...Researchers at the University of Turin and at the Thuringer Landessternwarte have confirmed that the extrasolar planet GJ 367 b has an ultra-high density. The research team also found two more planets that orbit the same star. Elisa Goffo, Ph.D. student at the Physics Department of the University of Turin (Italy) and at the Thüringer Landessternwarte (Germany), together with an international research team, has made a unique discovery about the planet GJ 367 b that raises interesting questions about how planets are born. credit text: “The Astrophysical Journal Letters” editor@maisonsoftomorrow #extrasolarsystem #extrasolarplanet

[Master Thesis] [Atom Interferometer Observatory and Network] [Gravitational Waves] [Imperial College London] This summer, I am working on the AION project (Atom Interferometer Observatory and Network) which is part of the High Energy Physics department in Imperial College. AION aims to explore the nature of dark matter and provide a pathway towards detecting gravitational waves from the very early Universe and astrophysical sources in the mid-frequency band ranging from several mHz to a few Hz. My master thesis is about sideband modulation of spectroscopy light with a waveguide EOM to characterise velocity profiles of atomic strontium beams which are used as the atoms sources for the experiments. Accurately characterising the velocity profiles of the sources will improve the quality of the Zeeman slowing and of the overall MOT processes. Greetings everyone! It is with an immense sense of joy that I share with you all, the recent publication of a paper, I co-authored with Prof. Dr. P.C. Deshmukh, Dr. S. Sunil Kumar and Mr. Pranav Sharma. The article titled: “Revisiting the Saha Equation” can now be found in the May 2024 edition of the (IAPT) Indian Association Of Physics Teachers' Bulletin. The work was a result of months of hard-work and dedication, by all of us. I can’t thank enough of everyone, especially of Prof. Dr. P.C. Deshmukh sir, who motivated me to work on the subject along with being the motivation of the group, during the entire period to the publication. This paper celebrates the century old, groundbreaking research of Prof. M.N. Saha on stellar astrophysics, the genius of which lies in recognizing the presence of ionized atoms in the atmosphere of a star and applying chemical kinetics to derive an equation which later came to be known as Saha’s equation, which was one of the earliest applications of Quantum Mechanics. https://lnkd.in/gA8MrSZc

#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking Hello all... The webinar titled "Introduction to Quantum Gravity" was delivered by Rev. Dr. Gabriele Gionti, Vice-Director of the Vatican Observatory, as part of the Eluci-Phy: Physics Webinar Series V organized by the Astronomy and Innovative Forum of Loyola College, Chennai. The talk, held on September 23, 2024, aimed to explore the fundamental concepts behind quantum gravity, a theoretical framework attempting to unify quantum mechanics with Einstein's general theory of relativity. Quantum gravity seeks to address the limitations of current physical models, particularly the discrepancies in describing gravitational forces at quantum scales, such as in black holes and the early universe. Traditional theories like general relativity work well at large scales but break down at quantum levels. The webinar likely discussed various approaches to quantum gravity, including string theory and loop quantum gravity, which strive to reconcile these contradictions. Dr. Gionti’s insights provided a deep understanding of these cutting-edge theories, making the session valuable for both students and scholars in the field of physics.

Astronomers, you may be missing an important citation. In his 1962 thesis, Titus Pankey Jr suggested an explanation for the type Ia supernova light curve and then provided an illustration on the basis of radioactive-decay physics. His research, however, is cited far less frequently than a 1969 paper that independently introduced the same idea. Many achievements by Pankey, one of the first 10 Black physics PhD recipients in the US, have not been recognized as they should be. But that’s changing. Recent essays, and now a Wikipedia page, have boosted the awareness of the Howard University physicist who published papers on astrophysics, semiconductors, and experimental materials science. Learn more about Pankey and the work to boost his legacy: https://lnkd.in/ditQaFT7 #PhysicsToday #BlackSpaceWeek #BlackInAstro
