The #50lunches50leaders 🍽 series is dropping into the CRO world 🌏 this week with 2️⃣ big players sharing their stories & leadership journeys.   🚀I'm pleased to introduce the first such professional is Stephane Gouteux🚀   In a childhood spent traversing the globe (living in Brazil 🇧🇷, Chile 🇨🇱, Italy 🇮🇹), it is no surprise this native-Frenchman's 🇫🇷 work career has followed a similar pathway.   At the completion of his studies 📚, including a PhD (neurosciences) from Aix-Marseille University, Stephane entered the healthcare world via ICON plc.   A 4.5 year stint followed in clinical research before a move to Idenix Pharma (acquired by Merck in 2014) for a following 3 years in project management.     A move to Switzerland 🇨🇭 with Merck Healthcare was the next stop in Stephane's career & he remained here for 6.5 years. Initially as an Associate Director in Geneva before an international ✈ transfer brought him to Japan 🇯🇵, first as Department Head - CTM, then Head of Global Clinical Operations (Japan & North-East Asia).   IQVIA were next to identify his value in this region by offering a Senior Director - Head of Oncology Project Leadership (APAC) role which saw him pack the family's suitcases 🛄 and move to Singapore 🇸🇬. After 3.5 years in that position, a transfer was yet again made to Dubai 🇦🇪 where he stayed for a further 18 months. That position of Head of R&D Solutions saw him oversee a huge region including the Middle East & Africa.   A return to Japan arrived in 2019 when Syneos Health secured Stephane's services as VP & General Manager - Japan Clinical Solutions Business. Despite the COVID-years, he has overseen a huge period of expansion 📊 for the business including an almost 80% increase 📈 in clinical headcount.   "As a Leader, I firmly believe that the greatest asset ✅ for a company is always the talent within it.   This employee-centric focus 🔍 has been a constant part of my career, starting with the very first people management role I had all the way through to the present day.   I try to not overcomplicate things and simply put, a happy 😃, engaged, valued employee is a productive one. This doesn't mean we have to be best friends or be super nice every minute ⏳ of every day, but I always communicate with transparency, empathy, respect 🙏 & with fairness in mind.   Leading is also understanding and reacting to the constant evolution of our environment & to adjust our strategy appropriately. The recent COVID-19 pandemic ⛑ gave us a great opportunity to adjust the employee ecosystem for more flexibility & better work/life balance. Developing this vision into tangible outcomes was key 🔑 to attract & retain talent. Another week, another group of meetings. This time I was back in the CEE region getting together with our colleagues in Prague, Warsaw and Budapest. I’m really happy that with my position of South East Europe head I got a chance to cooperate again with the teams from the region I used to lead. Main focus was put on changes that occurred in the past two years that reflected on our ways of working & our strategies on the markets. We used this opportunity to jump into meaningful discussions, where we got to celebrate our recent achievements, dissected our challenges, and our plans. It is important to mention that CEE is a key #OTC and #Sudocrem market. Collectively we explored innovative strategies aimed at serving our patients with even greater care and efficiency. We dove deep into brainstorming sessions about the further implementation of our Pivot to growth strategy, exchanging insights, and nurturing a culture of continuous improvement. The diversity of perspectives and expertise brought to the table was great for fueling our journey towards excellence. ❌It’s not just about crossing finish lines🏁 🚴🏽♂️In sports as in professional life not only the result should be important but also the process to get closer to successfully tackle our challenges. 🔊Today marks an important milestone for me as I have been selected to form part of the Nova 111 List in the Healthcare & Life Sciences vertical. 📝A list made up of 111 talented professionals under 35 with the potential and projection to transform their sectors and industries. Each chapter must come to an end, just make sure the story continues! ✍📖   Today marked my last day at Getinge Life Science business area. Representing the #bioprocessing division for Austria and Germany for the almost last three years I was able to learn so many new things and found hidden talents of mine I wasn't even aware of. It is the huge variety of interdisciplinary cross sections but most importantly the different setups and challenging technical requirements on the customer end, which made my work so exciting and gave each day its individual touch. Here are my three key insights I gathered during this time: ➡ Be a teamplayer! Try to support your colleagues whenever needed in order to create a more efficient workflow. But at the same time ... ➡ ... try not to rely too much on others, trust in your strengths! Or in other words: Don't expect more from your environment than you demand of yourself. Working autonomously and with foresight is key to managing your projects and therefore to #productivity. ❎ small call to all the #HR guys out there: For this and many other reasons, a #PhD should be officially credited as "work experience", period ... ➡ And my most important insight was at the same time the affirmation of my principle I tend to apply to everything I do: Whatever you do, do it one hundred percent 💯 ... or as Beethoven put it in terms of music 🎹 🎶 'To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without #passion is inexcusable.' With passion there comes #authenticity and with authenticity there comes credibility 💪 Big thank you to everyone who played his part in this chapter! I am very much looking forward to meeting you again and also to adding some new parts next year as the story continues ... I will also accelerate again here on LinkedIn. This is how happy people at Boehringer Ingelheim look like 😊.   Last week, Alexandra Breiner and I had the honor to run a major global event for the largest business unit of Boehringer Ingelheim, Humanpharma: Intent Day ✨. Under the motto of “United by Intent - powered by you”, we organized 4 global virtual sessions that had been prepared by colleagues, for colleagues. Intent Day truly travelled around the globe as there were rebroadcasts for the Asian/Pacific region as well as for the Americas. In addition, our colleagues in the US, China, Japan and Germany organized local sessions. What an amazing journey 🚀!   All session teams had signed up voluntarily and went above and beyond their regular day jobs. Their commitment truly role-modelled our 5 core behaviors: taking accountability, making timely decisions, learning new things, constructively challenging each other, and listening to our patients. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed 🙏🌺!   Personally, I had three key learnings from Intent Day:   ➡ It came out clearly throughout the sessions that we are all human beings first and foremost, before being patients, supervisors, employees, or colleagues 👩👧👧. Let's treat each other with respect, listen carefully, and always assume good intentions.   ➡ In times of busyness and pressure, it is crucial to reflect on why and what we want to change moving forward. What brought us here may not be beneficial for our future. Investing time in self-reflection can lead to meaningful growth and progress.   ➡ Embracing new ways of working can be enjoyable and fulfilling 💪🔥! 🎉 It's time for a first reflection after 100 days at Roche! These past 100 days have been incredibly inspiring, educational, and motivating! 🎉 As the Head of #Communications for the Sites Network Germany at Roche, I am privileged to spearhead internal and external communications initiatives across our sites in Germany. My primary goal is to provide top-notch strategic and integrated communications expertise to drive impactful #collaboration and ensure a consistent employee experience, ultimately shaping Roche's #reputation as an employer of choice. My learnings:  💬 Never hesitate to ask questions. After almost 25 years in Automotive, it was not easy to be a newbie at Roche because it's a new sector, with a new organization, procedures, and people. All the people I met, nevertheless, were pleased to help me during my first #100days, sharing their expertise and providing clarification on topics during the onboarding process. I learned a lot about Roche by asking a lot of questions, which was the secret to my effectiveness nearly right away. 💪 Trust in your strength: Having the exceptional chance to develop communication #strategies and #tactics in a new organization, a new sector, and with an amazing team also forced me to concentrate on my forte in communication and my love for leading and enabling people. 😍 Count on your team: Without the amazing group of communicators I have the privilege of working with at our sites in Germany, as well as the larger Roche communications family, none of my job would be possible. Our work is fueled by their #commitment, #expertise, and #passion, and I am incredibly appreciative of their efforts on a daily basis. I am excited for the trip ahead as I think back on these first 100 days. We will keep pushing the envelope, coming up with new ideas, and changing #healthcare and beyond together. 🚀🌟 The #50lunches50leaders series 🍽 continues it's life sciences flavor this week with the introduction of our newest member, Stephane PERREY 🌟🚀. Coincidentally, I actually first met Stephane at the 🥊 Executive Fight Night 🥊 tryout's a few weeks back & after taking pity on my poor boxing form 🤕, he felt compelled to commit to my leadership series! Commencing his career in research at Laboratoires Fournier in Japan, he continued his academic training with his 📜 PhD, Medical Science at The University of Tokyo followed by a Post-Doc at Harvard Medical School 🇺🇸. An opportunity arose to return ✈ to Japan from an unexpected source: Third Wave Technologies were looking to set up operations in Japan & in a 'stars ✨ aligning' moment, Stephane stepped into the role of VP & President of the new Japan affiliate & remained in that position for 7 years. In true start-up style, he raised 💰 capital locally to start R&D in molecular diagnostics (MDx) pioneering the first personalized medicine MD in Japan. Over the next 7️⃣ years, Stephane held down the role of VP & President at QIAGEN to build up its MDx in Japan. Being somewhat of a Japan 🇯🇵 expert, it was only a matter of time ⏳ before a BIG player came 🚪 knocking & this is exactly what happened. GE HealthCare rolled out a Japan General Manager role which Stephane took with both hands 🤝 & over the following 4.5 years, his responsibility stretched regionally with oversight of also the Australian 🇦🇺 & NZ 🇳🇿 markets. Overseeing the Cytiva spin-off, Stephane has been General Manager there since early 2020. Having led of several hundreds employees, multi-market coverage 🌏, 20+ years of holding down the #1 role in various healthcare organisations, Stephane's credentials cannot be questioned! "One important moment from my career I reflect on 🤔, is when I was initially offered by GE. I asked my boss why he selected me & he simply replied, because you are not a 'yes' man. I've continually kept this in mind when managing teams as I always insist everyone has a voice 💬 and feels comfortable sharing their opinions honestly. I truly live by this & actually expect pushback from the people I work with. Over the years I've also taken part in quite a few personality tests 📊 & one constant result shows me to be quite outspoken. I am known as the 'vocal' one in this region! This training feedback, however, consistently shows that I am very encouraging/supportive 👏 of my local teams & surprisingly, more critical of global! I feel this demonstrates that my team knows I have their back & I've built 🛠 these trustful relationships by truly knowing what is happening on the ground. Visiting manufacturing 🏭 facilities, going on sales calls...I constantly let my members know that they don't work for me, I work for them."
